NHL Bets of the Day 11/4/21

Detroit Red Wings at Boston Bruins, 7:00 p.m. ET

Best Bet: Red Wings +1.5 (-110) at BetMGM

Detroit takes on the Bruins at the TD Garden, which is a venue the Red Wings have been unable to win in since 2018.

However, this Red Wings team feels much different than recent history would suggest. It does make sense for the Bruins to be favored as they are at home and are coming off an impressive win against the Florida Panthers.

October’s NHL Rookie of the Month, Moritz Seider, is playing some great hockey, and in addition to that, the Red Wings are getting contributions out of Lucas Raymond, Tyler Bertuzzi, and Dylan Larkin, who have combined for 26 points early on in the season.

Detroit is hovering around the league average in scoring at 2.91 per game, while the Bruins are in the bottom half at 2.57 per game. The Bruins do have a better penalty kill though, which is barely top half in the league compared to Detroit who clearly struggles in that area and is below the league average in that category.

All in all, it’s safe to say that Boston is clearly the more physical and aggressive team. They average 33.9 shots per game, 29.3 hits and win 54.3% of faceoffs. However, this team isn’t as efficient as the Red Wings, who take fewer shots at 29.7 per game, score more goals at 2.91 per game and collect more assists at 5.4 per game.

Detroit is a sneaky team that needs to desperately turn around their misfortunes, and I expect they will come out ready to go and potentially win this game outright. The safe bet however, is taking the +1.5 as the Wings are 7-2 this season against the spread while Boston is 2-5.

Dallas Stars at Calgary Flames, 9:00 p.m. ET

Best Bet: Flames -1.5 (+165) at BetMGM

The Flames have been on a tear lately as winners of six of their last seven games. Jacob Markstrom‘s performance in the net — averaging only 1.56 goals per game — is a big reason why. He is projected to be in between the pipes tonight against the Dallas Stars, who have now lost four in a row.

Calgary is at home and has been one of the hottest teams in the NHL since starting the season 0-2. They average 3.44 goals per game and generate more scoring chances than any other team in the league with 35.89 shots per game.

On top of that, Calgary is among the best in power-play efficiency, power-play chances, and are a top-10 team on the penalty kill.

When you couple that with Dallas being second-to-last in the league in scoring, below average in scoring chances, power-play efficiency, penalty kill, and almost dead last in power-play chances, it’s not hard to see why the Calgary Flames should be favored in this contest.

Powered by a dynamic scoring duo of Johnny Gaudreau and Elias Lindholm with 22 total points, the Flames should win this by more than 1.5 goals tonight and cover the spread with some nice odds to boot.

Calgary is 6-2 against the spread this season while the Stars are 2-6.

Buffalo Sabres at Seattle Kraken, 10:00 p.m. ET

Best Bet: Sabres Moneyline (+165) at BetMGM

The Sabres are playing their first game tonight since trading away their former face of the franchise in Jack Eichel. While Eichel was stripped of his captain status and hadn’t played this year due to injury and his issues with the team, you can’t deny that trading him will have some effect on the team.

I expect the Sabres to win tonight and get back on track after dropping their last two games to the Kings and Sharks.

While the Sabres do not have a star like Eichel on the roster right now, they play as a collective unit with players like Victor Olofsson, Rasmus Asplund, Zemgus Grigensons, Kyle Okposo, Tage Thompson, Colin Miller and Jeff Skinner, who have combined for 47 points on the year.

The odds are good on this moneyline pick, and the Sabres will have Craig Anderson in net tonight who has 175 saves on the year and has a .921 save percentage.

Both teams have a great penalty kill unit, but the Sabres don’t rely as much on the power-play for it to be an issue. Seattle in general just is a bad hockey team that wants to hit, win faceoffs and try hanging around.

Seattle has a solid goalie in Philipp Grubauer in net who is 3-4-1 on the season with 181 saves, but the Kraken are unlikely to beat the Sabres in this one. Take the Sabres moneyline in this final pick of the day.
