NHL Bets of the Day 10/21/21
Best Bet: Calgary Flames Moneyline (-140) at BetMGM
Wager: 1 Unit
The Calgary Flames aren’t a juggernaut by any means, but the Detroit Red Wings are a worse team on paper. After opening the season with a 5-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers and suffering a 3-2 overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks, Calgary will be hungry for their first win against such a lowly team.
The Red Wings have surprised this far, beating the Vancouver Canucks and Columbus Blue Jackets in their past two games after narrowly losing their season opener to the Tampa Bay Lightning in overtime. Detroit’s been playing over their heads thus far, but I expect that to come to an end against Calgary.
I’d take the Flames moneyline all the way up to -150 for our NHL bet of the day.
Best Bet: Carolina Hurricanes Moneyline (-120) at BetMGM
Wager: 2 Units
The odds on the Carolina Hurricanes moneyline make zero sense to me. The Montreal Canadiens have looked absolutely atrocious to start the season, allowing 15 goals in four games while scoring just three themselves. That’s a recipe for disaster, especially when considering that Montreal has not faced any of the NHL’s best teams yet.
The Hurricanes have been playing like a top-five team thus far and I don’t expect that to stop with the absence of Canadiens goalie Carey Price. Accordingly, I would feel comfortable betting Carolina’s moneyline all the way up to -150.
Best Bet: Florida Panthers Moneyline (-115) at BetMGM
Wager: 1 Unit
I’m a believer that the Florida Panthers are the best team in the NHL, as this Florida team is extremely deep. Center Sam Bennett — who had a hat trick against the New York Islanders — has looked fantastic so far and could be what takes the Panthers over the top this season.
I think that the Colorado Avalanche are a top-five team in their own right, but they have not put it together yet, starting 1-2. I’m backing Carolina to continue their hot start on their home ice up to -125.
