MLB Betting Props of the Day: Best Baseball Props Today 8/5/21
Joey Votto, 1B, Cincinnati Reds vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (7:10 p.m. ET)
To Record an RBI (+100)
Wager: 1 unit (win would pay 2 units)
Joey Votto is red-hot at the plate, hitting 20-for-53 (.377) with 10 home runs and three doubles over his last 14 games. He has a 140 wRC+ for the season, which includes a 174 wRC+ versus right-handed pitchers. He has a favorable opportunity to remain productive at the plate in a matchup with Wil Crowe, who has a 5.40 ERA that is backed by an even worse 5.64 FIP. Not only does he have a bloated 1.51 WHIP, but he’s allowed 1.9 HR/9.
Jorge Soler, OF, Atlanta Braves @ St. Louis Cardinals (8:15 p.m. ET)
To Record an RBI (+120)
Wager: 0.75 units
After losing Ronald Acuna Jr. (knee) for the season, the Braves acquired four outfielders leading up to the trade deadline, including Jorge Soler. If you look at his overall numbers, Soler has not performed well, recording a .188 ISO and a .299 wOBA. With that said, he’s turned things around lately, hitting 14-for-46 (.304) with eight home runs and a double over his last 14 games.
He and the Braves could produce runs in bunches against Wade LeBlanc, who has a 4.99 FIP to go along with his miniscule 14.4 percent strikeout rate.
Griffin Jax, SP, Minnesota Twins @ Houston Astros (8:10 p.m. ET)
Under 3.5 Strikeouts (-135)
Wager: 1 unit
This seems like a low number to take the under on, but Griffin Jax doesn’t normally miss a lot of bats. He had a 22.1 percent strikeout rate across 38 innings at Triple-A this year and only a 14.3 percent strikeout rate over 111 innings at Double-A in 2019. He’s made three starts for the Twins, logging three or fewer strikeouts two times.
The Astros have struck out the fewest times in the majors and could score plenty early in the game, leaving Jax with the potential for few strikeouts in what could be a short outing.
