Astros (-133) at DraftKings
The Astros are sending Lance McCullers Jr. to the mound in Game 1. The righty is coming in hot, putting up a 2.57 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with 16 walks and 34 strikeouts in 35 innings. On the other side, Lance Lynn has struggled lately, allowing six or more runs in two of his last five starts. Lynn has not been the same pitcher in the second half, putting up a 3.66 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in 66.1 innings since the All-Star Break. Go with the home team with the pitching advantage in this spot.
White Sox/Astros Over 8 Runs (+100) at DraftKings
The White Sox were tied for fourth with a .329 wOBA, while the Astros finished second with a .336 wOBA. These are two of the best offenses in baseball, filled with stars like Luis Robert, Tim Anderson, Jose Abreu and Eloy Jimenez in Chicago, and Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Yordan Alvarez, Carlos Correa and Kyle Tucker in Houston. There’s simply too much star power in this one, so I feel more comfortable playing the Over 8 runs.
Rays (-180) at DraftKings
The Rays come into the postseason on a ridiculous stretch, as they’ve gone 46-25 since the All-Star Break despite losing ace Tyler Glasnow for the season. Rookie Wander Franco looks like a future superstar, adding another dimension to this lineup. The Rays will send rookie stud Shane McClanahan to the mound, who posted an impressive 20.1 K-BB%. It’s unclear who the Red Sox will start, but I’m going with the better team at home here in Game 1.
Red Sox/Rays Under 7.5 Runs (+100)
McClanahan is a stud and the Rays bullpen finished with a 3.24 ERA, which was good for third in MLB. We can expect both managers to keep a short leash on their starters in this one, which bodes well for the Under because we’re likely to see both teams’ flame-throwing relievers sooner rather than later. I don’t think the Red Sox will be able to score enough runs to push this one Over the number. Getting that extra half run at plus money is too much value to pass up.
ALDS Parlay (+1000) at DraftKings
At +1000 odds, this MLB bet of the day is worth a look. The Astros should be able to take care of business at home, scoring enough runs to push this game Over the total. The Rays are likely to win a low-scoring game on the strength of their pitching. If you want to split this four-game parlay in half, you can parlay the two home favorites to minimize your risk by avoiding paying up on the juice like you would in a straight bet.
