MLB Bet Of The Day 9/15/21
Milwaukee Brewers @ Detroit Tigers (1:10 p.m. ET)

We’ve got some afternoon baseball on today’s MLB slate, and my favorite play of the day is an early one.
Matt Manning will take the hill for the Tigers with a 6.14 ERA and 1.59 WHIP on the season. It’s been a rough campaign for the 23-year-old rookie, who’s been getting raked by opponents to the tune of a .305/.355/.484 batting line.
Manning allows a ton of hits (84 in 66 innings) due to his paltry 12.9% strikeout rate, and he hasn’t figured out how to consistently induce soft contact or ground balls. His hard-hit rate according to Statcast is 40.4%, while his ground-ball rate is just 43.7%.
That doesn’t bode well for today’s matchup against the first-place Milwaukee Brewers, who are already shooting for their 90th win. The Brewers have been one of baseball’s best teams all year and have been even better in the second half, ranking fourth in MLB with 279 runs scored (5.3 per game).
While their offense has been a bit up and down lately, Milwaukee has scored double-digit runs in three of their last six games. After getting shut out yesterday, look for the Brewers to bounce back against Manning today. They have a balanced lineup that profiles well against him and can score runs in multiple ways with their power, patience, and speed.
Manning has failed to complete the fourth inning in both of his starts this month, so look for him to struggle early against the Brewers and allow at least three runs.
