Here is our best MLB Betting Pick of the Day, including the Best Baseball Pick Today, 8/24/21. All odds for August 24 MLB bet picks were obtained from PointsBet.
I usually don’t recommend betting on a team that’s out of playoff contention, but today there’s an exception to my rule for my best baseball pick for 8/24/21.

MLB Bet of the Day 8/24/21
Washington Nationals @ Miami Marlins (7:10 p.m. ET)
- Probable Pitchers: WSN RHP Erick Fedde @ MIA LHP Jesus Luzardo
It’s been a rough season for Jesus Luzardo, who’s taken a major step back from his promising rookie performance last year. Things have only gotten worse since he was traded from the Oakland A’s to the Miami Marlins last month, as he’s allowed 19 runs on 21 hits and 16 walks in 17 2/3 innings over four starts with his new club.
On the season, the 23-year-old lefty has a 7.76 ERA, 1.78 WHIP, and 6.22 FIP in 55 2/3 innings. He’s allowing a 36.3% hard-hit rate and isn’t keeping enough balls on the ground (39.8% GB rate). Throw in his poor control, and he’s been one of the worst pitchers in baseball this year.
While tonight’s game may look like a soft matchup on paper for Luzardo, it’s anything but. Washington’s quietly been one of the best-hitting teams of the second half, ranking third in wOBA (.344) and sixth in wRC+ (112) since the All-Star break. The Nationals have also feasted on left-handed pitching all season long, leading MLB in wOBA (.347) versus southpaws.
Washington may not have Trea Turner anymore, but they still have plenty of hitters who can do damage against Luzardo. With Juan Soto, Josh Bell, Ryan Zimmerman, and Yadiel Hernandez leading the charge, this lineup remains formidable.
Luzardo has allowed at least three runs in each of his last five outings, and that’s all we’re asking from the Nationals’ offense tonight in the first five innings. Even if Washington only scores twice, it’ll be a push and you get your money back to try again tomorrow!
