2021 Final Four DFS Picks On Monkey Knife Fight

(Games and stat listings current as of Thursday, April 1, at 11 a.m. ET.)

Gonzaga vs. UCLA

More or Less (3x Payout)

  • Drew Timme, Gonzaga: More Or Less Than 19.5 Points? MORE
  • Johnny Juzang, UCLA: More Or Less Than 15.5 Points? MORE

For this contest, it is pretty simple. You must pick against the projected point totals for these two college basketball players correctly to earn three times your entry fee.

Drew Timme has been in plenty of headlines in the college basketball world for his facial hair and efficient play. USC seemed to have the Timme-beater with seven-footer Evan Mobley. Yet he still scored 23 points. Timme has continued to see his shot attempts increase along with his confidence. With an easier interior matchup, I think he can hit 20 points again.

Johnny Juzang is the reason why UCLA is still in the NCAA Tournament. He was stellar against Michigan, scoring 28 points. Remember, the Bruins only scored 51 total points. UCLA will be forced to play at a faster pace in this game, facing the sixth-fastest team in the country. This means more possessions and more opportunities for Juzang to score. This should be an easy More.

Rapid Fire (2.5x Payout)

Points: Drew Timme vs. Johnny Juzang (+4.5) — PICK: Juzang

Rebounds: Joel Ayayi vs. Jules Bernard (+0.5) — PICK: Ayayi

In the Rapid Fire contest, you are picking which player will win the stat battle, with one side getting a handicap. In this case, Johnny Juzang is getting 4.5 points versus Drew Timme, while Jules Bernard is getting a half rebound against Joel Ayayi.

We discussed above that I think both players will top their respective point totals. However, I expect Juzang to greatly surpass his total to the point where he will nail this pick. We have seen three of his five NCAA Tournaments go for 23+ points, and this is the fastest pace-up game he has had. While the Bulldogs have plenty of scoring weapons, the Bruins need Juzang.

For rebounds, it’s simple — UCLA is going to miss more shots. Gonzaga will again get out early and speed up the pace. The Bulldogs always find themselves at the rim getting layups. Not only are these high-percentage shots, it’s going to be harder for Bernard, a guard, to be the one racking up those rebounds. However, with UCLA likely trailing, game flow will ask them to take more jump shots, leading to more misses, more rebound opportunities and longer rebounds. This shapes up well for Ayayi to win this battle.

2021 Final Four DFS Picks On Monkey Knife Fight: Fade Quentin Grimes' scoring for Final Four matchup

Quentin Grimes relies too much on 3-pointers, which means he’s a ripe target to be faded in 2021 Final Four DFS games. (Image: USA TODAY Sports)

Baylor vs Houston

More or Less (3x Payout)

Quentin Grimes (Houston): More Or Less Than 17.5 Points? LESS

MaCio Teague (Baylor): More Or Less Than 16.5 Points? LESS

We already discussed the “More or Less” contest above.

This is a really interesting matchup between two “small-ball” teams that have the length and athleticism to guard the perimeter. Because of this, we actually could see a lot of missed shots and possible low scoring. It is also the reason why I am siding with LESS for both players.

Quentin Grimes is probably the best player in this game. However, he greatly depends on his three-point shot for his offensive success, with him attempting 22 shots from beyond the arc over the past two games. Baylor has been terrific at defending the perimeter, holding Villanova and Arkansas to a combined 6-28 from downtown.

Houston’s perimeter defense is just as good (despite some lapses in the tournament), and Baylor hasn’t had a team matchup with them like this in the NCAA Tournament. The Cougars hold their opponents to 29.2% shooting from three-point range this season. MaCio Teague is another player that depends on his long-range shot for offensive success. In fact, 41.3% of his points during the tournament have come from three-point range. When they haven’t fallen (two different games) he has single-digit points.
