Duke vs Oral Roberts Predictions | Odds & Best Bets

Last Updated: Mar 14, 2023

Two of the hottest teams in college basketball will square off when No. 5-seed Duke meets red-hot No. 12-seed Oral Roberts at Amway Center on Thursday.

The Blue Devils, who muddled along for much of the regular season, have now won nine straight and delivered an ACC Tournament championship to coach Jon Scheyer in his first season at the helm.

The Golden Eagles are even hotter, with 17 straight wins after a perfect 18-0 run through the Summit League. Oral Roberts is 30-4 and has played Cinderella before, reaching the Sweet 16 as a No. 15 seed in the 2021 tournament.

Let’s take a look at the Oral Roberts vs Duke matchup and the best bets for that game.

Duke vs Oral Roberts Prediction

Oral Roberts 85, Duke 80

Duke has been very up and down all season, and the Golden Eagles, who are loaded with upperclassmen and have the third-best scoring offense in America, are a nightmare matchup.

Oral Roberts Moneyline (+240) | DraftKings Sportsbook

Jay Bilas of ESPN referenced the Eagles as a “better team” than the one that stunned Ohio State two years ago. At least one No. 12 seed always beats a No. 5, and this is a prime candidate for that outcome.

Plus, Scheyer, who has famously replaced legendary Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, has not yet coached in an NCAA Tournament game. Oral Roberts coach Paul Mills is 2-1, with both wins coming during the 2021 tournament.

Oral Roberts +6.5 (-110) | DraftKings Sportsbook

WAGER: 2 Units

It’s understandable if you’re hesitant about diving headfirst into a moneyline bet when Duke is so talented and playing so well. But you can bet the Golden Eagles will hang around and give the Blue Devils all they can handle.

Over 146 Points (-105) at DraftKings Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

Oral Roberts averaged more than 84 points per game, led by senior guard Max Abmas. The Golden Eagles surpassed 70 points in all but one of their non-conference games — an 83-45 loss to No. 2 overall seed Houston on Nov. 14.

Duke boasts one of the best defenses in the nation but will need to score points to win the game. The Blue Devils are capable of doing so since they have scored at least 71 points six times on their nine-game win streak.

Plus, if this game gets to OT, the Over is a lock.

  • Oral Roberts +8.5
  • Both Teams to Surpass 69.5 Points

This seems fairly self-explanatory if you read the above, but in case you didn’t, each team should be able to surpass 70 points, and I teased up the spread just in case Duke wins and pulls away with free throws late.
