Two of the NBA’s most revered title contenders, the Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors, will take the floor at 10 p.m. ET on NBA Opening Night to begin the 2023-24 season.
Phoenix was transformed over the summer by adding former Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal, creating perhaps the most feared three-headed monster in the league with Kevin Durant and Devin Booker.
Meanwhile, Golden State added to its already dynastic build by bringing in future Hall of Fame guard Chris Paul, rounding out what should be the Warriors’ most talented team since Durant left in 2019.

Both of these squads underwent substantial changes this offseason, and it’s hard to say which will reign supreme by the end of the season. As far as the beginning goes, though, it should be the Warriors.
I’m not anticipating a blowout, but we still haven’t seen all that many games of Durant and Booker together, and Beal is expected to be sidelined with a back injury. The offensive ceiling is sky-high, but I would bet on it taking some time before this team reaches its peak.
Golden State is a phenomenal team when playing at home, and although Draymond Green (ankle) will be absent, the Dubs have a solid supporting cast. Keep an eye out for Jonathan Kuminga, who was red-hot throughout the preseason.
This will be an especially exciting matchup to watch as the regular season winds down, and I’m looking forward to the day that Phoenix and Golden State meet in the playoffs. Round 1, however, goes to the Warriors.

The Warriors underperformed as a whole in 2022-23, but if you focused solely on their numbers at home, you’d think it was 2016 again. Golden State went 33-8 and outscored its opponents by roughly 8.0 points per game at Chase Center — the fifth-best mark in the NBA.
There were times when the Dubs didn’t appear to be taking things completely seriously last season, but I firmly believe that Paul will remedy that issue. Unlike most of his new teammates, CP3 has never won an NBA title, and his competitive nature is sure to rub off on them.
A motivated trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Paul is about as terrifying as it gets in this league, even if they are all in the final years of their prime. Back the Warriors to make a statement on opening night with your NBA bet of the day.

Prepare for points! The Warriors gave up over 117 per game last season, and although the Suns were much better in that regard, it’s worth noting that this team’s latest build seems to be much better equipped to win on offense rather than defense.

Durant and Booker will get theirs, and the same can be said of Curry, Thompson, and Andrew Wiggins. When you have that many gifted scorers on the floor simultaneously, the Over will always be in play.
