Out West, the Mavericks defeated the up-and-coming Timberwolves, who had just taken down the reigning NBA champions. Dallas nearly pulled off the sweep before cruising to a 21-point victory in Game 5 at Minnesota.

In the East, the Celtics swept the Pacers, who only got two games out of Tyrese Haliburton before he went down due to injury. Even still, the series was about as close as it gets in a four-game sweep — Boston’s average margin of victory was just 6.8 points.

Why not? The Mavericks have the best player in the series in Luka Dončić, and Kyrie Irving has proven to be an incredible pairing for the young superstar. Dallas has also been challenged more than Boston through this stage, with the Mavs knocking off the West’s No. 4, 1, and 3 seeds.

Dallas is also an NBA-best 34-16 against the spread in road games this year, so this group should be comfortable opening the series in Boston. As long as the Mavericks can stay healthy, they’ll have a solid chance to upend the Celtics and win their first title since 2011.
