Monkey Knife Fight Hands-on Review

Based out of California, Monkey Knife Fight was founded in 2018 by Fantasy Sports Sharks’ owner Bill Asher. At first, MKF was just a website, but it is now available in both the Apple and Android app stores while fully operational in excess of 36 states and regions in North America.

These states and regions include AK, AL, AR, CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MD, MI, MN, MS, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NY, NC, ND, OK, OR, RI, SC, SD, TX, UT, VA, VT, WV, WI, WY and Canada (excluding Quebec).

While MKF is still in its infancy compared to their competition, they are partnered with larger notable brands that include the NFL and the NFLPA. In fact, classified as a strategic owner, the NFLPA was announced as an official partner of MKF back in 2020.

As I noted throughout this review, Monkey Knife Fight is not your typical DFS company. Rather than setting lineups within salary cap thresholds and playing against other users, MKF appears more like a sports betting platform with DFS wrinkles. Users play against their picks, which are mostly player prop and over/under-driven.

While MKF does not offer a rewards system, they do offer promotional contests that award “MKF Dollars.” MKF currency can be used to play in games on the platform, but can not be cashed out like real money.

If you are a beginner, then MKF is for you. Not only is it easy to use, play, and win, but MKF also offers extensive “how-to” tutorial sections all over their standard website and the “HQ” part of the site as well. MKF runs through smaller player pools compared to most DFS sites that are predominantly statistically driven.

It’s all worth noting that college sports contests are offered in all states with the exception of Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont.

Is Monkey Knife Fight Legit?

Yes, Monkey Knife Fight is legit. MKF is classified as a Daily Fantasy Sports platform that is fully registered in the United States and based out of California.

Can You Win Real Money Playing at Monkey Knife Fight?

Yes, you can win real cash at Monkey Knife Fight as long as you are wagering within the limits of states in which DFS and MKF are legal.

Currently, you can get a $5 no-deposit bonus when you sign up for Monkey Knife Fight.

Second-Chance Bet

Monkey Knife Fight is not currently offering any bonus bets wagers. However, they do run free contests every once and a while so be sure to keep up with their promo page.

Monkey Knife Fight Promotions

Monkey Knife Fight is always running promotions for its users. However, MKF’s promotions are always evolving and changing which means you should keep an eye on their promo page. Below, I listed two of their most frequent promotions.

  • Weekly Home Run Derby Contests
    • If you win MKF’s Friday Home Run Derby, you will win $5,000. There is only one winner.
    • Contests run every Friday.
  • Weekly Eagle Eye Golf DFS Jackpot Tournaments
    • Thousands in prizes.
    • Pick three golfers and if all of them record an Eagle in a given golf tournament, you will win a piece of the prize pool.
    • Contests run every Thursday.

What Is Monkey Knife Fight?

Although Monkey Knife Fight is categorized as a Daily Fantasy Sports site, it is run more like a sports betting platform. In addition to DFS-based player props, MKF also offers More or Less (over/under-esque) contests as well.

How Does Monkey Knife Fight Work?

At MKF, I have seen prize pools that range from 1.5x a player’s initial wager all the way up to 20x depending on the contest you choose to play. Contrary to traditional DFS contests where you set a lineup under salary cap restrictions and play against other players, at MKF, you already know what you need to win.

If you think Player A can get 20 points, you choose the Over (More), if you don’t, then you choose the Under (Less). It is that simple to play and win.

As I noted above, you don’t play against other users at MKF. Instead, you compete against a specific (selected) set of scoring thresholds. MKF offers cash games as well as tournaments.

My Monkey Knife Fight App Experience

Monkey Knife Fight did not offer an app at its inception, but they have one now. To get it, all you have to do is go to the app store on your Apple (iOS) or Android device and hit the download button.

I have it on my Apple device as we speak. If this is the first time you are using the MKF app on your phone, you will be asked to verify your location so they can ensure you are playing within legal state limits. Then, if you are not yet signed up, you will be asked to sign up now. If you are an existing user, you will be asked to sign in now.

The MKF app is new, simple, and easy to use.

At the top right, you will see the MFK logo. Here, you have your account balance as well as the ability to log out. At the left, you will see a menu button. The menu button has the same options as the right side menu of the website (New Game, My Dashboard, My Account, Add Funds, Withdraw Funds, Transactions, HQ, and so on).

Under the top buttons, you will find live leagues with games in play that day. If you choose basketball, the top NBA games will show up at the final scrolling menu at the bottom of the home screen. The middle scroll is MKF’s featured contests for a given day.

Navigating through the app is not difficult either. Once you click on a game, you will be able to find your player and wager selection screen. Just like the website, choose your players and wager amount and you are done.

Remember, once you enter a contest, you can not edit your player or wager amount. However, if the player you choose happens not to play in the contest, MKF will refund your ticket.

Should You Play at Monkey Knife Fight?

Whether you are a beginner or an expert DFS player, Monkey Knife Fight has a home for you. At MKF, there is a minimal advantage for the expert as you will find at your traditional DFS sites.

You are not playing against other users here. You also are not setting lineups. You pick your players/team by selecting predetermined statistical thresholds, player prop, and over/under style.

MKF is also extremely user-friendly and appealing to the eye on both its website and app. You won’t get lost or deal with lagging speeds as you could at other DFS sites.

At Monkey Knife Fight, you will also find promotions that run and change almost daily, so be sure to keep an eye on their promo page.

I enjoy having a plethora of sports betting and DFS sites in my arsenal. All of them have their own advantages and disadvantages, MKF included.

While MKF may not be as in-depth and layered as their competitors, the simplicity of their games gives the edge to their users more so than anyone else I’ve seen. Especially for beginners, MKF is a must-add.

Bets You Can Make

  • Stat Shootout: Participants compose a team of players that they believe can accrue the maximum number of a predetermined statistical metric (i.e. Assists) particular to the sport the contest is based on. Users also specify a target goal for that stat and track the players’ progress through the site’s live scoring feature. If the user’s team exceeds the chosen goal, they win the prize shown prior to entry.
  • Rapid Fire: Participants select their team by choosing the highest-scoring player in multiple head-to-head matchups in statistical categories. Those selections will need to outscore the unselected players in their head-to-head matchups. Whenever a selected player gets additional points added to their score in a matchup, they will be shown in green (i.e. +14.5). Choose the coinciding posted number of matchups correctly to win the prize shown prior to entry.
  • More/Less: Participants decide whether a pre-set group of two or more players will fall short or exceed a specific statistical benchmark particular to the sport the contest is based on, or a certain number of fantasy points based on MKF’s fantasy-point scoring system (i.e. Player A will have more/less 28 points tonight). Participants must make the right selection for all of the players in the contest in order to win the prize shown prior to entry.

Rewards System

At this time, Monkey Knife Fight does not offer Rewards or a VIP system, however, be sure to check out their promotions for free contests and more.

However, MKF does offer “MKF Dollars" by playing in and winning certain promotions. MKF Dollars can be used to place wagers on the platform but can not be cashed out.
