France vs Australia World Cup Predictions

Last Updated: Nov 23, 2022

France’s World Cup repeat will begin with a matchup against Australia. Les Bleus are the favorites to win Group D and have the third-best odds to win the tournament at +800, only behind Brazil and Argentina.

Australia will be competing with Denmark and Tunisia to finish second in the group and advance to the knockout stage. This is déjà vu for Australia and France as they were in the same group in 2018 alongside Denmark.

Tunisia is replacing Peru in this year’s contest as the last team in the group. The Socceroos failed to win a game four years ago at the World Cup, which included a 2-1 loss against France.

Let’s dive in on odds for this matchup between France and Australia.

France vs Australia Odds

  • 3-Way Handicap: France (-410) | Draw (+450) | Australia (+1200)
  • Draw No Bet: France (-1400) | Australia (+700)
  • Over/Under Goals: Over 2.5 (-145) | Under 2.5 (+115)
  • Both Teams to Score: Yes (+127) | No (-165)

France vs Australia odds are current as of 5:30 p.m. EST, on Nov. 21, at Caesars Sportsbook.

The oddsmakers have France heavily favored to win this match and to keep a clean sheet. The defending champs will be expected to light up the scoresheet in an easy matchup to start their World Cup.

France vs Australia Matchup & Betting Tips

The French are heading into the World Cup in bad form, winning only one game out of their six in the Nations League.

The absence of Karim Benzema will mean that Olivier Giroud will most likely start in his spot to pair with Kylian Mbappé at the top of the attack.

They will line up in a true 3-4-1-2 with Antoine Griezmann playing as the primary facilitator in the middle of the attack. France has dynamic wing players in Ousmane Dembélé and Kinglsey Coman, but with their current formation, it’s tough to find a spot for them in the lineup.

The Socceroos under manager Graham Arnold play in a 4-2-3-1 formation and focus on defense as well maintaining possession of the ball. They will play a high line on defense and force France to play long balls to start an attack.

Unfortunately for Australia, Mbappé is one of the fastest players in the World and will be able to get on the end of the long balls and make the defense pay.

This is a mismatch for the Australians, and the French should start their 2022 World Cup with three points.

France vs Australia Prediction

France 3:1 Australia

The talent on the French national team will be too much for the Australian side to overcome in this contest. Their speed and technical skill with the ball will overmatch the Australian midfield and defense.

Les Bleus will dominate the possession in this game and expose the high line of the Australian defense.

France vs Australia Best Bets

France to Win and Over 2.5 Goals in the Match (-120) at Caesars Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

France should have no problem scoring in this match and should easily win. This will almost feel like a warm-up game for the reigning World Cup champions. France’s real World Cup will start in the knockout stage where they’ll be expected by their fans to return to the Final.

2nd Half: France -1 (+200) at Caesars Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

Since this is the first match of the tournament for both teams, there might be a slow start to the action. The first half of this game will be tight to start off and the second half is when the French will start to gain momentum.

Once they have found their groove, Les Bleus will take over the scoring and should cover the one-goal spread in the second half.
