Following the Hall of Fame Game last week, NFL preseason gets fully underway this week with a packed schedule. One matchup will be two teams with playoff aspirations in the NFC when the Detroit Lions host the New York Giants. While we won’t see much playing time for many of the starters on both teams, some exciting young players should take the field on both sides of the ball.

Giants vs Lions Predictions
Score Pick: Giants 23, Lions 20
The Giants went 2-1 during the preseason last year, while the Lions went 1-2. Both teams have undergone significant changes since then, especially on the offensive side of the ball. The Giants addressed their lack of talent at wide receiver last season by bringing in Parris Campbell and drafting Jalin Hyatt while acquiring tight end Darren Waller from the Raiders. They should be a much more dangerous unit with those three in the fold.
The Lions saw their biggest turnover at running back, with Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery replacing D’Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams. The veteran Montgomery might not play much in this preseason game, which can be said of most veteran starters for both sides.
Don’t expect to see much of quarterbacks Daniel Jones and Jared Goff. With that in mind, the Giants have the edge in backup quarterbacks with Tyrod Taylor. Behind Goff for the Lions is Nate Sudfeld, who has only completed 25 passes in his NFL career. With that in mind, look for the Giants’ offense to be more productive and help lead the team to a victory.
Giants vs Lions Best Bets & Props
Over 36.5 points (-110)
DraftKings Sportsbook • WAGER: 0.5 units
The Giants were involved in plenty of high-scoring games last preseason. All three of their games had a combined score of at least 44 points. Their offense should be more productive, but they still have some of the same concerns on defense that they had last year. They lack safety and cornerback depth and don’t have much quality talent at inside linebacker behind free-agent addition Bobby Okereke.
The Lions also played in some high-scoring affairs last preseason, including their first preseason game in which they combined for 50 points with the Falcons at home. Don’t expect points to be difficult to come by for either squad, making this our NFL bet of the day.
Giants Over 19.5 Points (-110)
DraftKings Sportsbook • WAGER: 0.5 units
The Giants may have yet to add a top-tier wide receiver, but they did accumulate a lot of depth at the position. They brought back Isaiah Hodgins and Darius Slayton, and Sterling Shepard has already come off the PUP list. They also added veterans, Cole Beasley and Jamison Crowder, giving them a lot of proven talent that can be on the field, even late in preseason games. With the competent Taylor likely to get a significant run at quarterback behind Jones, the Giants have a great opportunity to score at least 20 points, which they did in all three of their preseason games last year.
Winning Margin: Giants by 1-6 points (+310)
DraftKings Sportsbook • WAGER: 0.25 units
The Giants played many close games last preseason, with each game being decided by four or fewer points, two of which they won. The Lions also had two of their preseason games decided by four or fewer points, which included that Week 1 loss at home to the Falcons. Don’t expect either team to run away with this game, so this could be worth the risk at such appealing odds.
