The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will look to build off a surprising season as they kick off the 2024 campaign by hosting the Washington Commanders in Week 1 at Raymond James Stadium.
Will Baker Mayfield regress after losing offensive coordinator Dave Canales? Or will an intriguing Bucs’ passing game be able to have success against a vulnerable Commanders’ defense?
Let’s dive in at the latest Buccaneers vs Commanders odds and predict this matchup.

Buccaneers vs Commanders Predictions
Buccaneers 24, Commanders 20
I mentioned how losing stud play-caller Dave Canales could have an impact on the Bucs’ offense. But it’s worth noting that new offensive coordinator Liam Coen comes from the Sean McVay tree, where we’ll see progressive play-calling with a lot of 3-WR sets.
That’s huge for Tampa Bay, especially with stud rookie wideout Jalen McMillan adding another weapon to this group.
The Commanders will be much more exciting with first-year quarterback Jayden Daniels, but the supporting cast is limited outside of Terry McLaurin.
This team is a work in progress, especially on defense, where Da’Ron Payne and Jonathan Allen are pretty much the only pass-rushing threats.
While I’m expecting a close game, I give the advantage to the defending NFC South winners.
Sportsbook Play of the Day
Buccaneers vs Commanders Best Bets
Buccaneers Over 22.5 Points (-130)
I’m avoiding the Bucs on the point spread because it’s past the key number of three.
I prefer to go with Bucs Over 22.5 points since it’s a relatively low bar and the Commanders defense is one of the weakest on paper.
While I could see improvement from Washington as the year progresses, this is a brand new coaching staff with a roster that had a lot of turnover this offseason.
In other words, it’s going to take time for these players to gel.
All that we need is Baker Mayfield to exploit this susceptible secondary with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and/or Jalen McMillan.
We’re below key numbers of 23 and 24 with this team total, so let’s drink a little bit of juice at (-130) and make the play.
Back the Bucs to put up 23+ points with your NFL bet of the day.
