Week 7 Fantasy Baseball 2-Start Pitchers To Add From Waiver Wire
Adbert Alzolay, Chicago Cubs (12% rostered on Yahoo!)
- Start 1: at Cleveland Indians
- Start 2: at Detroit Tigers
Adbert Alzolay’s quietly having a fantastic season, despite a ho-hum 4.50 ERA. Through five starts spanning 26 innings, he has a more sparkling 3.31 SIERA and 0.88 WHIP, per FanGraphs, which is a better indicator of his quality of pitching.
Alzolay’s struck out an impressive 30.0% of the batters he’s faced, which is validated by his 31.4 CSW% which would rank tied for 19th among qualified pitchers if he’d pitched enough innings to meet that threshold. However, most impressively, he’s cut his walk rate by more than half from 14.9% in 2020 to 7.0% in 2021.
Alzolay has a pair of non-threatening matchups with the Indians tied for 18th in wRC+, and the Tigers tied for 21st in wRC+ against righties this year.

Brady Singer, Kansas City Royals (52%)
- Start 1: at Detroit Tigers
- Start 2: at Chicago White Sox
I aim to include players who are available in more than half of fantasy baseball leagues. Still, Brady Singer fits the spirit of this piece, and we’re inclusive here, helping gamers even in shallower fantasy leagues as well.
The second-year big-leaguer has pitched rock-solid through his first 93.1 innings in The Show, spinning a 3.86 ERA, 4.23 SIERA, 1.17 WHIP, 8.8 BB%, and 23.3 K%. He’s made incremental improvements this year, induces grounders at a high rate, avoids hard contact, and makes up for his lack of swing-and-miss stuff by coaxing called strikes at a high rate.
The first of his starts this week, at the Detroit Tigers, is a drool-inducing matchup. They’re tied for 21st in wRC+ (89) against righties and punch out at a gaudy 28.0% clip. The Chicago White Sox can be a challenging matchup, but an injury to Luis Robert removes one formidable hitter from their lineup, making it a pinch less scary.

Luis Garcia, Houston Astros (6%)
- Start 1: vs. Los Angeles Angels
- Start 2: vs. Texas Rangers
Luis Garcia’s the riskiest of the two-start pitchers this week. The Los Angeles Angels rank second in wRC+ (118) against righties, and the Texas Rangers rank tied for sixth with a 108 wRC+ against them this season. The Angels are without Anthony Rendon, though, removing a superstar from Garcia’s opposition. Further, the Rangers provide ample swing-and-miss with a 27.9 K% against righties this year, providing him upside that’s worth absorbing some risk to chasing.
For his part, Garcia’s earned a nod due to pitching well through six appearances (four starts) spanning 24.2 innings. He has a 3.28 ERA, 3.75 SIERA, 1.01 WHIP, 9.0 BB%, 28.0 K%, and 29.6 CSW%.

Week 7 Fantasy Baseball Spot Starter
Domingo German, New York Yankees at Baltimore Orioles (47%)
Domingo German’s cooking of late. After holding the Washington Nationals to two earned runs on five hits, one walk, and six strikeouts in 6.1 innings on Sunday, he lowered his ERA to 4.02 and WHIP to 1.18. He’s walked only 4.6% of the batters he’s faced while striking out 23.7% of them.
German’s made three quality starts in his last four, and he’s held the opposition to three earned runs or fewer while pitching at least five innings in all four of those turns. His best start of the year was a seven-inning scoreless gem on the road against the Baltimore Orioles, his opponent this week.

Week 7 MLB Sleeper Hitters
Nick Senzel, OF, Cincinnati Reds (26%)
- 3 Games at Pittsburgh Pirates
- 4 Games at Colorado Rockies
Between playing second base and the outfield, Nick Senzel’s been a regular in the lineup of late. An injury sending Joey Votto to the injured list has vaulted him up the lineup card, too. Senzel’s slotted atop the order in three straight games.
Senzel’s not lighting the world on fire with a .247/.337/.318 triple-slash line and only one homer, but he’s swiped a couple of bags as well. His batted-ball data and 13.3 K% portend well for batting average improvement, and the volume is there at his disposal this week with a full seven-game week. Additionally, four of those games are at Coors Field.
Marwin Gonzalez, 1B/2B/3B/OF, Boston Red Sox (4%)
- 1 Game at Baltimore Orioles
- 3 Games vs. Oakland Athletics
- 3 Game vs. Los Angeles Angels
Marwin Gonzalez’s story is nearly a mirror image of Senzel’s. Enrique Hernandez is on the injured list, vaulting Gonzalez to the top of the order the last two games the Boston Red Sox have faced righties. He hit seventh against a lefty in their only other game with Hernandez on the injured list.
The Red Sox are mashing this year, making the leadoff gig in their lineup especially fantasy-friendly. Gonzalez also benefits from a full seven-game week and each of the games being played in hitter-friendly ballparks. According to FantasyPros, Oriole Park at Camden Yards ranks 11th in park factor for runs (1.022) and fourth for homers (1.171). The other six games are at Fenway Park, which ranks third in park factor for runs (1.103).
