Rams-Seahawks Key Injuries
Rams
Jared Goff looks like a legitimate game-time decision, following surgery on the thumb of his right throwing hand less than two weeks ago. The QB was seen throwing passes last week and was a limited participant at Tuesday’s practice.
Backup John Wolford started last week, going 22-of-38 for 231 yards and an interception while running for 56 yards filling in for Goff in Week 17. Whether it’s Wolford or Goff, I think it’s fair to downgrade the Rams’ receiving corps on Saturday.
Seahawks
Chris Carson is listed as questionable with a foot injury, but is expected to start at running back for the Seahawks. Carson has 10-plus carries in each of the past five weeks, and should be the team’s lead back again this weekend. He had 16 carries for 69 yards and three catches for another 10 in Week 16 versus these same Rams. I’d expect a similar output in this Wild Card contest, and maybe a touchdown to boot.
Rams-Seahawks Players to Watch
The Goff situation could force the Rams to lean on its stable on running backs. Cam Akers is questionable with an ankle injury, after leading the team in touches (25), catches (4) and receiving yards (52) last week. Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown split carries in the Week 16 contest between these two teams, totaling 17 carries for 89 yards.
The Seahawks seemingly go as Russell Wilson does, but the QB has two sub-par games against the Rams this season. He went 22-of-37 for 248 yards and two picks in Seattle’s Week 10 loss, and then 20-of-32 for 225 with one passing and one rushing TD in the Seahawks’ Week 16 win. Whether Russ turns the ball over or not could make a difference in this one.
Rams-Seahawks Weather Report
The weather report at Lumen Field calls for mostly cloudy skies and a high temperature of 48 degrees Fahrenheit. There is a 25% chance of rain and wind gusts of up to 8 mph as expected as well.
Rams-Seahawks Picks & Bet Tips
BEST BET: Seahawks -4 (-110)
This is my best bet mainly because I’m assuming the Seahawks will be facing Wolford, who took his first career NFL snaps last week. When these two teams were at full strength just two weeks ago in Seattle, the Seahawks came way with a 20-9 win and an NFC West title. I’d expect a similarly low-scoring contest and Russ to pick up another playoff victory.
CONSIDER: Under 42.5 (-105)
Like I said above, points should be at premium in this one. The Seahawks haven’t given up more than 23 points in their last eight games — a streak that began in Week 10 against the Rams. With two run-first offenses, I’m predicting a 24-13 Seahawks’ win.
PASS: Seahawks (-200)
If you plan to take the Seahawks, take them minus the points. Even consider buying it down to -3 for a “safe" play.
