Raiders Sign John Brown
The Raiders signed Brown to replace Nelson Agholor, giving the team a veteran deep-threat who can share this role with sophomore wide receiver Henry Ruggs III.
Ruggs has not proven himself as a reliable option yet, so it was imperative for the Raiders to add a veteran presence in Brown. Brown joins Ruggs and fellow second-year wide receiver Bryan Edwards as well as slot specialist Hunter Renfrow and superstar tight end Darren Waller. Add in promising third-year running back Josh Jacobs and you have a promising skills group in Vegas.
Brown has proven himself as a capable downfield threat, coming off an injury-plagued season where he caught 33-of-52 targets for 458 yards and three touchdowns in nine games. He’ll be entering his age-31 season trying to rebuild his value with a bounce-back year. Quarterback Derek Carr showed a solid rapport with Agholor, helping the former Eagle turn in a career season, so Brown has an opportunity to return to 2019 production.
Raiders 2021 NFL Betting Outlook
Vegas is currently listed at +1000 to win the AFC East and +6500 to win the Super Bowl on BetMGM, but I wouldn’t even consider either of these bets. Keep an eye out for this team’s season win total. John Brown is a solid addition, but the Raiders lost several key pieces on the offensive line.
I would expect Vegas’ win total to be anywhere between 6.5 to 7.5 games.
The Raiders traded offensive tackle Trent Brown to the Patriots while releasing Pro Bowl center Rodney Hudson and offensive guard Richie Incognito. They also traded guard Gabe Jackson to the Seahawks. General manager Mike Mayock is trying to retool this offensive line, but this seems like a high-risk endeavor that could have a significant impact on the offense.
The Chiefs remain the juggernaut of this division, while the Chargers should improve under stud sophomore quarterback Justin Herbert. We could also see the Broncos upgrade on quarterback Drew Lock. It wouldn’t surprise me to see the Raiders find themselves in the basement of this division.
