Michigan vs Florida State Bet: 2021 March Madness Sweet 16 Pick & Prediction

Last Updated: Mar 26, 2021

Michigan vs Florida State Bet: 2021 March Madness Sweet 16 Pick. The first weekend of the NCAA Tournament is in the books and we are onto the Sweet 16! Michigan will be asked to defend the Big Ten’s honor against a Florida State team that hung a banner saying their final ranking last season.

The Wolverines cruised to an easy first win over Texas Southern, then out-paced LSU by putting up 86 points in the Second Round. Florida State’s games have been lower scoring, defeating both UNC Greensboro and Colorado.

What can we expect from either team in this Michigan vs Florida State matchup? Let’s take a look.

We have seen Michigan’s ability to put up points and win track meets. However, this game will likely have a different type of flow. Florida State won their first two games putting up point totals of 64 and 71, respectively. Unlike the Wolverines’ first two games, defense will be ever-present in this matchup.

After watching the first two rounds, most fans would likely think Michigan is a high-pace team. Again, they can play this way if need be, but the Wolverines actually rank 246th in tempo, per KenPom. Prior to the NCAA Tournament, Michigan’s previous five games finished with an average point total of 132.4. All five of those games were against tournament teams, if you consider Michigan State being in the NCAA Tournament.

Florida State’s interior defense is making me slightly uneasy about betting Michigan to cover, though that is the way I would lean. I would rather bet the UNDER on this point total because of the defense, projected tempo and because of the Seminoles’ struggles from three-point range in the NCAA Tournament so far (6-26).
