The New York Jets pick Alijah Vera-Tucker No. 14 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft on Thursday night.
Jets Pick Alijah Vera-Tucker No. 14 Overall In 2021 NFL Draft
For the second consecutive draft, the jets addressed their offensive line in the first round. Last season, they selected Mekhi Becton, and New York has run it back with Alijah Vera-Tucker in 2021.
Vera-Tucker may not be the best tackle in the draft, but he may be the most versatile. In fact, he has experience playing both guard and tackle and is labeled a guard entering the next level. He can open the season starting at guard, but if need be, has the versatility to play on the outside. A significant selling point.
On a team as lowly as the Jets who just drafted their franchise quarterback in Zach Wilson at the top of the first round, getting this front five on track is a priority to avoid another Sam Darold fiasco. Some draft experts believe that Vera-Tucker’s strength is playing on the interior where he can bring All-Pro-caliber upside.
Alijah Vera-Tucker’s Fantasy Football Outlook in 2021
In most formats, he does not equate to fantasy points directly. However, indirectly, Alijah Vera-Tucker can impact Zach Wilson, Corey Davis, Jamison Crowder, Denzel Mims, and whoever the starting New York RB will be.
. Vera-Tucker is expected to be a Day 1 starter in New York, which bodes well for the upside of those aforementioned fantasy assets, all of which, can be had on the cheap.

2021 New York Jets Win Total
- Over 6 Wins (-110)
- Under 6 Wins (-110)
Although the Jets selected Zach Wilson, they remain a work in progress with glaring needs on both sides of the ball. Sure, they added Vera-Tucker and Mekhi Becton in back-to-back drafts to bolster their line, but what about the three other starting spots along the front five? And don’t get me started on the defense.
While the Jets hired Robert Saleh a defensive guru, as head coach, the former 49ers DC had a plethora of first-round picks to work with on San Francisco’s front seven. He does not have that from the jump in New York. The Jets will be an improved team overall, but I like the Under on the Jets’ 6-win total as a result.
New York Jets Bet To Make Playoffs?
- Yes (+450)
- No (-625)
If you asked me if the Jets or the Jaguars had a better shot at making the playoffs this season, I would have to err on the side of Jacksonville. They have more talent and also added Travis Etienne at running back in the back of the first round.
We still don’t know who the Jets are even starting in their backfield. The Jets are more than a long shot to make the postseason in 2021. Fade this one, but if you must get some action on a long shot, the Jags (+350) are the play.
Jets To Win AFC East Division Title (+2000)
The AFC East belongs to the Bills. However, if there was a team noteworthy enough to list as an heir to the throne, I would say the Dolphins (+325) or Patriots (+400), leaning New England. Look for New York to be a tough out, but they are at least a year away from competing for a division crown.
Jets To Win Super Bowl 56 (+8000)
If the Jets are a year away from competing in the AFC East, they are at least three years away from contending for a Super Bowl, which is why they draw (+8000) odds. It is not happening in 2021.
