The Philadelphia Eagles pick DeVonta Smith No. 10 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft on Thursday night.
Eagles Pick DeVonta Smith No. 10 Overall In 2021 NFL Draft
The Eagles traded up two picks with the Cowboys to select Alabama and reigning Heisman Trophy winner WR DeVonta Smith. They likely made the trade to get in front of the Giants, who were reportedly targeting Smith.
The Eagles are hurting at wide receiver, amidst other holes in their roster. However, since they will likely start QB Jalen Hurts this season, he wouldn’t be able to have a fair shot at success with the players they had slated at pass-catcher. They needed more. Smith gives them that.
Smith joins an Eagles skill position roster that includes Miles Sanders, Zach Ertz, Dallas Goedert, and Jalen Reagor. Although the Eagles still employ Travis Fulgham and Greg Ward, they are both career practice squad talents prior to landing in Philadelphia. Look for Smith and Reagor to be starters in two-wide sets to open the year.
What Smith lacks in size he brings in speed, reliability, and maturity. If Hurts can take a step up as a thrower, Smith could flourish in year one.
DeVonta Smith 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook
Contrary to Jaylen Waddle’s landing spot with the Dolphins, Smith will be the projected starting wide receiver for the Eagles in two-wide sets. While there are questions about Jalen Hurts, Smith could be the type of talent that lifts up his quarterback.
Not only is he a burner on the outside, but Smith could also be used in the short-passing game with the elusiveness to break a big play in open space. Smith should be the third rookie pass-catcher off the board in redraft leagues behind Ja’Marr Chase and Kyle Pitts.
DeVonta Smith Dynasty Fantasy Football Outlook
If you believe in Jalen Hurts, DeVonta Smith is a no-brainer selection for you in your rookie drafts. Not only is he expected to start in two-wide sets, but Smith is an exceptional route runner with the speed to create separation and break a big play any time the ball is in his hands.
If he hits, Smith will be an asset to your fantasy football dynasty team for years to come.

2021 Philadelphia Eagles Win Total Bet
- Over 6.5 (-130)
- Under 6.5 (+110)
The books were generous with Philadelphia’s 6.5 win total, which is why I will buy the Under. The Eagles went 4-11-1 last season with Carson Wentz starting most of the year. Now, we will get Jalen Hurts in his first full season as the starter. What’s more, they also have a first-year head coach in Nick Sirianni.
The Eagles will be lucky to win five games in 2021.
Philadelphia Eagles To Make NFL Playoffs?
- Yes (+280)
- No (-350)
Absolutely not.
Not even in the lowly NFC East can I fathom the Eagles making the playoffs. The Cowboys, Giants, and Washington will all improve. Meanwhile, the Eagles are only in year one of their rebuild with holes and question marks all over their roster — and on the sideline.
Eagles To Win NFC East (+425)
Again, this is a big negative for me. While all four NFC East teams were in the hunt down to the wire last season, that will not happen again It is a two-team race between the Cowboys and the Football team with Dallas garnering the edge.
Eagles To Win Super Bowl 56
Eagles To Win Super Bowl 56 (+8000)
If there is any long shot I would wager to win the Super Bowl with similar odds, I would look in the direction of the Football Team at (+6600). I can even make a stronger case for the Jags at (+12500).
DeVonta Smith 2021 Prop Bet
DeVonta Smith to win AP Offensive Rookie of the Year (+1400)
While Smith earned the Heisman Trophy last season, the OROY award will be difficult to achieve. Sure, Smith will be slated as a starter, but if any wide receiver is going to win the award, the greater odds err on the side of Ja’Marr Chase and his reunion with Joe Burow. Between Burrow and Jalen Hurts, it is clear that Burrow is the superior signal-caller, whi0ch is the ultimate tie-breaker here.
