Cincinnati Bengals 2021 Schedule, Changes, and Outlook
A significant amount of attention will be heaped on Joe Burrow and his offensive teammates when the Bengals begin training camp this summer. The 2020 first overall pick’s recovery from last season’s ACL tear and the progress of the franchise’s top draft selection this spring, Ja’Marr Chase, will command much of the spotlight.
So, too, will the health of an almost forgotten but equally integral piece in Joe Mixon. The 2017 second-round pick missed the final 10 games of last season with a foot injury, so he and Burrow barely played together. This could be the year he finally benefits from playing with a quarterback and receiving corps that defenses will truly have to respect.
That being said, Cincy’s defense will need to take a major step forward in order for the team to have a chance at securing a postseason spot. Cincinnati was an absolute sieve against the run last season, giving up 148 yards per game on the ground and surrendering the most running yards per carry (5.3). They also ranked last in the NFL with 17 sacks.
The additions of Larry Ogunjobi and Trey Hendrickson to the front four should certainly help, while the secondary will be bolstered by the likes of Eli Apple, Chidobe Awuzie, Mike Hilton, and Trae Waynes.
The divisional schedule will naturally prove a tough nut to crack for the Bengals, and would likely be one of the primary impediments to a possible postseason berth. A number of non-divisional games are winnable, however, and Cincinnati could certainly pull off an upset or two with its improvements on both sides of the ball.
Bengals 2021 Make Playoffs Bet: Yes Or No For Cincinnati?
YES (+450)
While Cincinnati’s divisional schedule is undeniably daunting, the Bengals have the caliber of young talent at key positions that should only improve as the season goes along. With the expanded playoff format now accommodating seven postseason entrants per conference and the price on this wager being what it is, there’s nothing wrong with betting on Zac Taylor’s squad to snag a Wild Card berth this season.
