Castillo was blasted by the Cardinals for 10 runs (eight earned) over 3.1 innings in his first start of the season, so he’ll certainly be on a mission of atonement in this matinee matchup. The conditions set up nicely for a bounceback, considering the Pirates have scored a combined 13 runs over their first five games and have a 26.3 percent strikeout rate and .290 wOBA over 137 plate appearances thus far against right-handers.
Castillo has held current Pittsburgh bats to a cumulative .235 average and .267 OBP across 81 career encounters, and he was 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA and .213 BAA in two starts against the Pirates in 2020. Castillo also owns a .207 BAA and .274 wOBA at home in his career, and he notched a decision in 10 of 12 starts last season.
Trevor Bauer, Los Angeles Dodgers at Oakland Athletics

Bauer was mostly brilliant in his regular-season Dodgers debut against the Rockies, racking up 10 strikeouts and taking a no-hitter into the seventh. He now faces an A’s team that looks positively lost over its first six games, scoring 13 runs while mustering an anemic .169/.257/.265 slash. Oakland has much better hitters than that line indicates, but the only issue is, they may have a very difficult time demonstrating as much against Bauer in a much more pitcher-friendly park than the one he dominated in to start the season.
The plus-money here is a bit of a surprise, but there isn’t any real trap here on the surface. Naturally, Oakland should be extremely motivated to notch its first win and avoid another sweep, but the talent of Bauer and both the bats and bullpen backing him up are such that this wager is certainly worth taking a flyer on at this price.
