After having their 2021 season put on hold, the New York Mets will start their season tonight against the Phillies. Taking the mound for the Mets will be two-time Cy Young award winner, Jacob deGrom.
When looking at his 2020 starts, reaching over 8.5 strikeouts seems easily attainable. In that abbreviated season, deGrom struck out nine or more hitters in seven of his 12 starts. One of those games came against the Phillies in which the Mets ace sat down 12 Phillies’ hitters.
Despite the Phillies starting their season with a sweep of the Atlanta Braves, they were still prone to striking out. In just three games, the Phillies have a total of 36 strikeouts. With all of that in mind, this seems like an ideal chance to bet the over on 8.5 Jacob deGrom pitching strikeouts.
Trevor Williams, SP, Chicago Cubs (vs. Milwaukee Brewers): More than 5.5 Pitching Strikeouts
In his first start as a member of the Cubs, Trevor Williams will take on the Milwaukee Brewers lineup. In his lone start against the Brewers last season, Williams was able to throw for six strikeouts.
After finished 2020 with the second-most strikeouts in the league, it loos as if the Brewers are picking up right where they left off. Much like the aforementioned Philadelphia Phillies, the Brewers hitters have accounted for 36 strikeouts, tied for the fourth-most in baseball.
Even though Williams has recorded more than 5.5 strikeouts in less than half of his starts over the last two seasons, the opportunity seems too ideal to pass up. Both deGrom and Williams will hit the over on their strikeout totals tonight.
