NFL Week 9 Best Bets

New England Patriots vs Carolina Panthers

Don’t look now, but the Patriots are suddenly back into the playoff hunt in the AFC. They’ve put together two impressive wins over the Jets and Chargers and took the Cowboys to overtime in Week 6, which is reflected in the NFL gameday odds.

Now, they will get a chance to face off against an old friend in Sam Darnold in Week 9.

The Panthers got a win last week against the Falcons, but the offense is still having a ton of problems. They likely won’t be fixed this week with the Patriots and their complex defense coming to town.

This is a game the Patriots should win, as the offense and defense are finally starting to come together.

Patriots vs Panthers Prediction: Patriots 24, Panthers 17

Patriots vs Panthers Best Bet: Patriots -3 (-110) at FanDuel

Mac Jones wasn’t fantastic against the Chargers, but he didn’t make any big mistakes, either.

Instead, he managed the offense and helped the team get an impressive 27-24 road win against Los Angeles. That’s all he has to do in this game in order for the Patriots to come away with another victory.

New England’s defense should be able to hold the Panthers under 20 points, and the rushing attack is getting better by the game. Look for the Patriots to win by at least a touchdown on the road in Week 9.

Patriots vs Panthers Best Bet: Under 42.5 (-110) at FanDuel

The Patriots have one of the slowest offenses in the NFL, relying on the short passing attack combined with a heavy dose of the ground game. Ideally, they want to win games 20-13 and drain as much clock as possible.

With their defense playing lights out and Darnold on the schedule, this seems like a game in which points will come at a premium.

Under 42.5 points feels like the right bet here as neither team is likely to put up more than 24 points.

Los Angeles Chargers vs Philadelphia Eagles

Yes, the Chargers lost in Week 8 to the Patriots. And yes, the Eagles destroyed the Lions, 44-6. But despite these two teams only being a win apart, the Chargers are the far superior team.

Justin Herbert did not have his best day against the Patriots, but that’s what Bill Belichick and his defense can do to a young quarterback. Look for the Chargers to bounce back in a big way in Week 9 and beat the Eagles by double digits.

Chargers vs Eagles Prediction: Chargers 31, Eagles 20

Chargers vs Eagles Best Bet: Chargers -2.5 (-110) at BetMGM

This is a spread that just doesn’t make quite sense.

The Eagles are at home, but they just don’t have a competent offense against any decent team. Jalen Hurts isn’t the answer at quarterback and he can’t keep up with elite passers.

The Chargers should win this game going away, and the fact that they aren’t even a 3-point favorite is disrespectful. Look for Los Angeles to win this one easily on Sunday.

Chargers vs Eagles Best Bet: Over 50.5 (-110) at BetMGM

If there is one thing we have learned about Jalen Hurts this season, it is that no quarterback is better at putting up points (and fantasy points) than him in the fourth quarter.

Even if this game is out of hand, look for Hurts to use his legs to create splash plays for the Eagles.

The Chargers should have no problem scoring 30 or more this week, so it will be up to the Eagles to score into the 20s for the over to hit. That seems pretty likely, making this our NFL bet of the day.
