Detroit Lions 2021 Win Total Bet: Schedule, Changes, and Outlook
The swap of Matthew Stafford for Jared Goff is a downgrade by all means, but there has been a lot of overreaction to Goff as if he can’t play at a league-average level. Yes, he is not good, but he also is not terrible. To make this team’s perception worse, Detroit lacks traditional weapons at WR. Their best pass catchers play TE and RB (T.J. Hockenson and D’Andre Swift) and they’ve built a talented OL that is bolstered by the No. 7 overall pick Penei Sewell.
New OC Anthony Lynn will want to keep the ball on the ground and play through the backfield while taking calculated shots downfield to speedsters Breshad Perriman and Tyrell Williams. The offense won’t be high-powered by any means, but it also won’t be an embarrassment.
On the defensive side of the ball, second-year CB Jeff Okudah is bound to be better than his rookie showing. Okudah did not look like the guy selected No. 3 overall whatsoever, and with a full offseason to get acclimated in a new defense, things should look up for their talented CB1. Detroit also gets back high-priced EDGE Trey Flowers back from injury along with veteran Michael Brockers and three picks from Day 2 of the NFL Draft to help bolster the front seven.
Detroit’s most valuable addition has been Dan Campbell, who is set to “change the culture" after Matt Patricia demolished any semblance of “team" these past few seasons. While Campbell may come off as a rube, he is a former player who does not big-time his guys and seems to have gained the respect of the locker room. Campbell and new GM Brad Holmes have redirected course on the Lions and the needle is pointing up.
Schedule-wise, the outlook is a lot less favorable with Aaron Rodgers back in Green Bay. There are really only three games against weak opponents (Bengals, Falcons, and Eagles) and the division as a whole looks tougher with Justin Fields in Chicago, and a revamped defense in Minnesota.
Detroit Lions 2021 Win Total Bet Pick
Lions To Win OVER 4.5 Games In 2021-2022 NFL Season (-170)
This line is begging you to take the under, but 5 wins are very doable for a squad with a chip on their shoulder. The Lions are not cracking .500 anytime soon, and the notion that they want a top QB in 2022 is apt, but the option to trade up is always on the table.
This will be a competitive team that will lose games but also will not just roll over. Wins will be eeked out, and as the old saying goes, teams can win on any given Sunday. Savvy drafting and a roster that’s bought into the culture can do wonders from one year to the next.
