The most anticipated matchup of this week’s college football slate also figures to be one of the premier matchups of the entire season. No. 5 Georgia (5-1) is going on the road to take on No. 1 Texas (6-0) this Saturday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The Longhorns have been dominant thus far, ranking No. 7 in points per game (43.2) and No. 1 in points allowed (6.3). On the other hand, the Bulldogs haven’t lived up to their usual standard and have had a few uninspiring showings, including a 41-34 loss to Alabama in which they trailed by as many as 28 points.

Georgia vs Texas Prediction
Texas 27, Georgia 21
Georgia is better than Michigan and Oklahoma, but Texas dismantled those ranked opponents, limiting them to 15 combined points and an average of 260.5 yards. And while the Bulldogs ripped apart Clemson in Week 1, they’ve hardly looked like world-beaters in narrow wins over Kentucky and Mississippi State.
Part of Georgia’s problem is its suddenly vulnerable defense, which ranks 21st in opponent points per game. That’s still among college football’s top units, but if that ranking holds, it would only be the Bulldogs’ second time finishing outside the top five since 2018.
Whether they attack through the air or on the ground, the Longhorns have the tools necessary to succeed. QBs Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning have been stellar, while RBs Jaydon Blue, Jerrick Gibson, and Tre Wisner have all picked up at least two scores on the ground.
Georgia may also have a tough time cracking this Texas defense, which has yet to allow more than 13 points in a game. Oklahoma was only able to connect on a field goal, and the Dawgs have been underwhelming in true road games.
It’s rare to see Georgia listed as an underdog, but it’s warranted here. The Longhorns are the better team, and they should come out on top in their first major test against the SEC’s elite.
Sportsbook Play of the Day
Georgia vs Texas Best Bets
Texas -3.5 (-110) vs Georgia
This will be the most difficult game of the season for the Longhorns, but they should still have a decent shot to cover this 3.5-point spread. The Bulldogs have been too inconsistent this season — particularly on the road — so it’s hard to imagine them coming into Austin and pulling off the upset.
Georgia’s record against the spread is actually quite indicative of how far this team has fallen below expectations. The Dawgs are an ugly 1-5 ATS, making them one of just 18 teams in the nation that have failed to beat the spread more than once.
On the other hand, Texas is 5-1 ATS, and its 36.8-point average margin of victory is good for No. 1 in the country. You should never make your bets on trends alone, but this is one case where the numbers tell the story. Back the Longhorns with your college football bet of the day.
Under 56 Points (-112)
Georgia has fallen short of expectations on defense, but don’t think for a second that this game won’t be decided on that side of the ball. Texas has been dominant in that regard, and it’ll be eager to bring the pressure against Carson Beck and co.
