After a grueling 82-game NBA regular season, it’s time for the Play-in Tournament, where the ninth-seeded New Orleans Pelicans will take on the 10th-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder in what promises to be a terrific matchup.
Let’s dive into predictions and best bets for the Pelicans vs Thunder matchup taking place on Wednesday, April 12.
Pelicans vs Thunder Odds
NBA odds used for these best bets are current as of Monday, April 10, at 5:00 p.m. ET and were found at DraftKings Sportsbook.
- Moneyline: Pelicans (-200) • Thunder (+170)
- Spread: Pelicans -5 (-110) • Thunder +5 (-110)
- Total Points: Over 228.5 (-110) • Under 228.5 (-110)
Pelicans vs Thunder Prediction
Pelicans 115, Thunder 111
Few teams in the NBA have been more resilient than the Pelicans this season. Despite the continued absence of Zion Williamson, the Pels enter Wednesday’s contest with a golden opportunity to further extend their season.
Getting to this point has been anything but smooth sailing for a New Orleans team which has relied heavily on their defense to win games. If they can get past the Thunder and find their way into the NBA Playoffs, we really could see them make some noise in the West.
Although I’m predicting a close game that may even come down to the final possession, look for New Orleans to ultimately prevail.
Pelicans vs Thunder Best Bets
Under 228.5 Total Points (-110) • DraftKings Sportsbook
WAGER: 1 Unit
How have the Pelicans managed to keep afloat without Williamson? One word comes to mind: defense.
As a team, New Orleans ranks sixth in the NBA in defensive efficiency (112.6 via NBAstuffer) and eighth in oPPG (112.5). The Pelicans’ ability to slow the game down and get key stops should keep OKC’s high-octane offense at bay.
In a winner-take-all matchup where points will be much harder to come by, I’m confident betting the Under. I’d advise you to do the same.
Thunder +5 (-110) • DraftKings Sportsbook
WAGER: 1 Unit
The Thunder and Pelicans have played some memorable and competitive tilts against each other throughout the 2022-23 campaign, with three of their four previous matchups decided by four points or less. From a sheer betting standpoint, you’re getting a favorable number with a five-point spread.
Although it’s certainly been an up-and-down season for OKC, I’m confident they can keep this all-important game within reach. For these reasons, I have no issue laying down a single-unit wager on the Thunder at +5.
