Belgium vs Canada World Cup Predictions

Last Updated: Nov 23, 2022

Canada will have its hands full in its first World Cup match since 1986 as they open up the tournament against Belgium. This Group F battle is set to take place Nov. 23 at Al-Rayyan Stadium.

Belgium will look to prove why they are ranked second in FIFA’s official power rankings with a convincing win over Canada. Manager Roberto Martinez has the luxury of so many top-class players across the pitch such as Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, and Eden Hazard to name a few.

While Canada is not considered to be a threat to Belgium in the group, making it back to a World Cup after missing the tournament the last 36 years will have the entire country buzzing. Manager John Herdman will look at forwards Cyle Larin and Jonathan David to provide a steady attack as they did during World Cup Qualifiers.

Belgium’s star power will prove to be far too much for the up-and-coming Canadians. However, it will be interesting to see how both teams perform on Matchday 1 of the 2022 World Cup.

Belgium is expected to handle Canada fairly easily judging by the lopsided moneyline and Draw No Bet odds.

It is interesting to see that “Yes” for the Both Teams to Score wager has negative odds. With the nerves that come with playing in the biggest soccer tournament in the world, it will be fascinating to see whether Canada can score in this match.

Belgium vs Canada Prediction

Belgium 2-1 Canada

Although the score prediction appears close, you can expect Belgium to maintain control for the majority of the match.

Canada will struggle with possession throughout, but a last-ditch effort down 2-0 towards the end of regular time will net the team its first World Cup goal in 36 years.

Belgium’s attack will be far too relentless for Canada’s defense. Despite employing one of the best left-backs in the world, Alphonso Davies, Canada simply does not have the talent on the back line to compete with one of the best teams in the tournament.

Lukaku will add to his all-time leading goal count in this game, as well as Kevin De Bruyne, who is playing in exceptional form entering the tournament.

Belgium vs Canada Betting Tips

  • Belgium has lost only two matches in 2022 prior to the World Cup, both being to the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League.
  • Belgium dominated World Cup Qualifiers, winning six of eight matches and averaging 3.13 goals per game.
  • Canada finished top of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers, averaging 2.14 goals in 14 matches.
  • Canadian captain and all-time caps leader, Atiba Hutchinson, is expected to be fully fit after missing several friendlies due to bone edema.

Many of Belgium’s stars have played in huge games both internationally as well as with their clubs. Apart from Davies, Canada is mostly constructed of younger players who typically play domestically in North America. With no current players ever playing a minute in a World Cup, you can expect the team to start the tournament looking like a deer in headlights.

Belgium should find the back of the net within the first 45 minutes and constantly threaten Canada’s defense for the entirety of the first half.
