Eloy Jimenez Injury: 2021 Fantasy Baseball & White Sox Betting Outlook

Last Updated: Mar 29, 2021

Eloy Jiminez Injury: Chicago White Sox slugger Eloy Jiminez will be sidelined for 5-to-6 months with a ruptured pectoral tendon.

Jiminez will need surgery to repair this injury he suffered while trying to make a play in the outfield during an exhibition game. Surely, this injury will change the outlook of the White Sox, who were poised to make a run at the American League Central Division and perhaps even a World Series Title.

Eloy Jimenez Injury: Fantasy Baseball Outlook

General manager Rick Hahn said the club will know more about Jimenez’s timetable for return after surgery and once the rehab process begins. Probably not good news.

However, this surgery reportedly takes five or six months to recover from, which would push Jimenez’s return into August or September. At best, Jimenez could be a very long hold that could potentially return for the last few weeks of the season.

If you are looking for immediate value from Chicago to contribute during the regular season, perhaps Tim Anderson or Jose Abreu could hurt their potential for runs scored. While Andrew Vaughn was projected to be the designated hitter, he could end up replacing Jiminez in the outfield. Leury Garcia is another option to replace Jiminez in the outfield.

Eloy Jiminez Injury: Chicago White Sox Betting Outlook

Despite this big injury to one of the best sluggers in baseball, Unibet still has the White Sox at +850 to win the World Series. Only the Padres, Yankees and Dodgers have better odds.

Losing Jimenez could cost Chicago a few games during the regular season, but the Cleveland Indians traded away Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carassco while the Minnesota Twins did not make any gigantic splashes. This is a White Sox squad that should certainly be deep enough to stay afloat and crack the playoffs even without their star hitter.

Unibet has Chicago at -121 odds to win the American League Central. Pairing minus odds on a prop bet future, especially without Jiminez, this could be an easy wager to turn down. I would be more inclined to place a wager on Chicago making noise in the postseason when they could be at full strength with more enticing odds.
