The NFL trade deadline came and went with not many deals being made. The biggest name not on the move was Odell Beckham Jr. of the Cleveland Browns.

Well, formerly of the Browns, as Cleveland finalized a deal to release Beckham on Friday, November 5. This has been in the works since Odell Beckham Sr. posted comments on social media criticizing Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield, and the organization could not find a suitable offer to deal the three-time Pro Bowler.

With his release, Beckham will hit the waiver wire and will not be eligible to be claimed until 4 p.m. on Monday, November 8. The current waiver order top 10 is as follows:

  1. Detroit Lions
  2. Miami Dolphins
  3. Houston Texans
  4. Jacksonville Jaguars
  5. New York Jets
  6. Washington Football Team
  7. New York Giants
  8. Philadelphia Eagles
  9. Seattle Seahawks
  10. Chicago Bears

If Beckham can pass through waivers unclaimed, then he will become a free agent and be able to sign with any team he chooses.

Let’s see which teams are the favorites to land the wide receiver and the more than likely teams he might play for. All odds are current as of 5:00 p.m. EST on Friday, November 5.

Odell Beckham Jr.’s Next NFL Team Prediction

With the news of Beckham’s release still fresh, not many sportsbooks have the odds on where he’ll play next. For the sportsbooks that do have this prop bet (Betfred & PointsBet), here are the odds for the top teams that are favorites to land Odell Beckham Jr.:

  • Las Vegas Raiders: +300 at Betfred & PointsBet
  • New Orleans Saints: +350 at Betfred, +450 at PointsBet
  • Baltimore Ravens: +400 at Betfred, +550 at PointsBet
  • New England Patriots: +500 at Betfred, +450 at PointsBet
  • Los Angeles Rams: +600 at Betfred, +2200 at PointsBet
  • Buffalo Bills: +700 at Betfred & PointsBet
  • Indianapolis Colts: +800 at Betfred, +1600 at PointsBet
  • San Francisco 49ers: +900 at Betfred, +1200 at PointsBet
  • Green Bay Packers: +1000 at Betfred, +1200 at PointsBet
  • Tennessee Titans: +1200 at Betfred, +1400 at PointsBet

As previously mentioned, if any team claims Beckham off waivers, he’ll have to play for that club. However, it’s unlikely he’ll be claimed, given his current contract structure. That has been a holdup for his actual release as well as the Browns are working on potentially converting his remaining base salary into a signing bonus.

So, when Beckham does clear waivers and gets to sign with the team of his choice, here are the frontrunners to land the wide receiver:

Las Vegas Raiders (+300) at Betfred

The Raiders recently released wide receiver Henry Ruggs III after he was charged with DUI resulting in death. Earlier this season, head coach Jon Gruden resigned following a controversy involving emails he sent with sexist, homophobic, and transphobic language. Despite all the controversy, the Raiders sit atop the AFC West at 5-2.

Derek Carr is having one of the best seasons of his career and is on pace to break 4,000 passing yards for the fourth straight year. However, Carr’s weapons look thin after Ruggs’ release, as the team’s current depth chart at wide receiver is Hunter Renfrow, Bryan Edwards, Zay Jones, and Dillon Stoner.

Adding Beckham to this roster, alongside tight end Darren Waller, would put the Raiders in a great position to hold onto its grasp of the AFC West. Carr is definitely an upgrade from Baker Mayfield, who would make sure to get Beckham more looks than he was getting in Cleveland.

New Orleans Saints (+450) at PointsBet

These Saints are a team that needs an upgrade at the wide receiver position.

After losing quarterback Jameis Winston for the year with an ACL injury, the Saints got more bad news as Michael Thomas announced he would miss the entire 2021 season with his ankle injury. Trevor Siemian played well in New Orleans’ comeback against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 8, throwing for 159 yards and a touchdown.

However, the Saints are still near the bottom of the NFL in passing yards with 1,341 combined yards between Winston, Siemian, and Taysom Hill (who will be used at QB as well). The top three receivers on the roster are Marquez Callaway (284 yards, 3 TDs), Deonte Harris (271 yards, 2 TDs), and running back Alvin Kamara (256 yards, 4 TDs). Kamara also leads the team in receptions and targets.

Adding Beckham, who still has plenty of good years of football left, will bring new life to the Saints’ aerial attack. And if Beckham signs long-term, the pairing of him and Michael Thomas would be one of the top duos in the league.

New England Patriots (+500) at Betfred

I’ve seen this movie before. An unhappy wide receiver wants to leave his old team and joins the Patriots, where he has plenty of success. Of course, Beckham is no Randy Moss, and the current Patriots are nothing like the New England teams of the 2000s, but Bill Belichick could bring in Beckham to try to conjure up some déjà vu.

At 4-4, New England is 1.5 games behind the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East, and while the Bills will most likely win the division, the Patriots could still get into the playoffs via the Wild Card.

On a two-game winning streak and coming off of a big win against the Chargers, adding Beckham would breathe new life into this Patriots team. In addition, rookie quarterback Mac Jones would undoubtedly benefit from having a true No. 1 receiver similar to his days at Alabama.

What makes this pairing even more perfect? If the Patriots end up signing Beckham, his first game would most likely be in Week 10 when the Patriots host the Browns. A revenge game to start his New England career? Can’t script it any better.
