We are heading into the third night of NHL action on Thursday night with some teams playing their first games of the season and others playing their second. It has been a couple of days full of upsets to this point and we could be in for a wild ride this season.
Let’s be honest though — when does the NHL season ever go as planned?
With a relatively full slate of nine games, there are tons of options out there for your Thursday night NHL parlays. Let’s discuss four of my favorite NHL parlay pieces that you should be adding to your bets.
All odds and lines are courtesy of BetMGM and are current as of 2:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, October 14.

Dallas Stars Moneyline (+120) at BetMGM
I really like the even odds value on the Stars here. Dallas plays some of the toughest defense in the NHL and that will serve them well against a fast-paced team in the New York Rangers. I believe they should be favored by at least (-140) in this game, but the value is there, nonetheless.
I expect the Stars will pull out a low-scoring victory on the road.
Vegas Golden Knights Moneyline (-155) at BetMGM
I’m very surprised that the Golden Knights’ moneyline is only (-155). The Kings are a pretty lackluster squad overall and Vegas still has most of their key pieces from their past contending teams.
Mark Stone and Max Pacioretty are downright dangerous and put together six points in their opening 4-3 victory over the Seattle Kraken.
The Golden Knights will attack Kings goalie Jonathan Quick early and often in this game and will come out on top.
Pittsburgh Penguins +1.5 (-165) at BetMGM
The Penguins put together a major upset over the Tampa Bay Lightning in their opening game despite missing Sidney Crosby and other key players. I expect them to continue upsetting teams as they take on the Florida Panthers on the road.
The Panthers are an outstanding team, but I believe they are a tad over-hyped, and it’s reflected in the lines here against the Pens. Back the spread on the Penguins and expect a tight, low-scoring game Thursday night.
Tampa Bay Lightning Moneyline (-250) at BetMGM
I expect the Lightning to bounce back and win their first game of the season after getting routed 6-2 by the Pittsburgh Penguins on opening night. The Lightning face the Detroit Red Wings, one of the consensus worst teams in the NHL. This is an excellent parlay odds juicer and a no-brainer pick for me.
Ignore the juice and toss it in your parlay with the expectation that the Lightning deploy their high-octane offense and score early and often. The Red Wings’ defense is not entirely awful, but their offense is arguably the worst in the NHL.
Back the more well-rounded team.
