NHL Bets Of The Day 10/14/21
Best Bet: Pittsburgh Penguins +1.5 (-165) at BetMGM
- Projected Goaltenders: Tristan Jarry (PIT) vs. Sergei Bobrovsky (FLA)
The Pittsburgh Penguins pulled off a major upset over the defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning during their season opener, blowing out the Lightning 6-2 on the road. The Pens are without several notable players including Sidney Crosby, but their phenomenal defense is capable of carrying them.
The Florida Panthers are the more complete team, but I still see value on the spread at reasonable vig for our NHL bet of the day. Even if Pittsburgh doesn’t win, we do as long as they keep the game within a goal.

Best Bet: Toronto Maple Leafs & Ottawa Senators Under 6.5 Goals (-120) at BetMGM
- Projected Goaltenders: Petr Mrazek (TOR) vs. Matt Murray (OTT)
First and foremost, Ottawa Senators goalie Matt Murray is out tonight with a non-COVID-related illness. Anton Forsberg will man the net for Ottawa in his place.
This total is one I expect the public and the sharps to be extremely split on. It could wind up as a genuine 50-50. There are valid arguments for both sides, but I’m taking the Under 6.5 for the following reasons:
For starters, the Toronto Maple Leafs will be without center and top goal-scorer Auston Matthews. Additionally, a lot of these lines are fresh and lack the seasoning and chemistry on offense. Given the lack of experience, this game could be sloppy and should end up being low-scoring.
