MLB Bet Of The Day 10/1/21
Cincinnati Reds @ Pittsburgh Pirates (6:35 p.m. ET)
- Probable Pitchers: CIN RHP Luis Castillo @ PIT RHP Wil Crowe
The Pittsburgh Pirates have been one of the worst teams in baseball this year, making them a perfect target for our last pick of the regular season. Tonight Pittsburgh will start Wil Crowe, who is 4-10 with a 6.20 ERA, 1.70 WHIP, and 6.36 FIP in 119 career innings. He’s also yielded at least three runs in six of his last nine starts and 32 total runs during that stretch.
As a pitcher with poor command who surrenders a ton of hard contact, Crowe is the ideal opponent for an offense to tee off on. His career marks of 10.5 H/9, 2.3 HR/9, and 4.8 BB/9 explain his poor performance.
Meanwhile, the Cincinnati Reds have one of the most dangerous lineups in baseball. Nine players have popped double-digit home runs for them this year, fueling an offense that ranks second in the National League in OPS and total bases.
Despite getting eliminated from postseason contention, the Reds have continued to hit well down the stretch. They’ve scored at least seven runs in five of their last nine games, including a 13-run explosion against these same Pirates on Monday.
Crowe struggled in his lone start against Cincy this year, getting rocked for seven runs on eight hits in four innings. The Reds should be able to feast on him again and score at least three runs against one of the worst pitchers in baseball, making this one of our best MLB picks today.
Baseball Bet Of The Day: Reds Over 2.5 Runs In 1st 5 Innings (+105)
