MLB Bet Of The Day 9/3/21

Sean Manaea was once listed as one of the favorites to win the AL Cy Young this year. Times have since changed. Manaea’s August was dreadful, as he allowed 31 hits and 22 runs in 20 innings. That was good for a 9.90 ERA in August. He’s basically running out of gas.
Manaea only pitched through five innings once in those five starts in August and allowed eight home runs in those 20 innings. In the last 30 days, he has had an xFIP of 5.13 and is striking out just 19 percent of batters. Manaea has also allowed 22.5 percent line drives and 49.3 percent hard contact.
What stands out the most is how poorly the left-hander has done against righties during this stretch. Manaea’s last 80 righties have hit for a wOBA of .513 and an ISO of .408. The home runs are coming from right-handed batters, and he has really struggled to put them away.
The Blue Jays will send nine righties up against Manaea with power galore. The team has a projected ISO of .182 and a wOBA of .334. Both are above the average. Meanwhile, George Springer is 11-for 34 against Manaea with six RBI’s and should be the perfect table-setter for this offense.
Manaea has allowed three or more runs in four of his last five outings. In the other one, he went 4 and 2/3 innings and allowed two runs. It’s just been an awful month, and with nine righties coming up to the plate against Manaea, the Blue Jays should be able to score at least three runs in the first five innings.
