Possible Julio Jones Trade: Which Teams Have Great Odds?

San Francisco 49ers (+450)

The 49ers are the odds-on favorites at the moment given their need for a top receiver, especially with rookie quarterback Trey Lance set to take over the offense. Jones also has a relationship with San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan, who was Atlanta’s offensive coordinator during the team’s most recent Super Bowl run in 2016-17. Only one season removed from a Super Bowl appearance themselves, the 49ers are an attractive destination, making a potential Jones-Shanahan reunion likelier.

Baltimore Ravens (+600)

The Ravens have lacked a true No. 1 receiver for a while now, causing their offense to become over-reliant on the run game and limiting Lamar Jackson‘s ability to attack opposing defenses through the air. Bringing in an elite wideout such as Jones would make them much harder to defend and take some of the pressure off Marquise Brown, who could become Baltimore’s version of Calvin Ridley next to Jones. The Ravens could also build an enticing trade package centered around first-round draft pick Rashod Bateman, who would be of great value to the rebuilding Falcons.

Green Bay Packers (+1200)

The Packers have their own high-profile malcontent in Aaron Rodgers, but landing Jones might convince him to stick around. Green Bay has alienated Rodgers by failing to surround him with top weapons in recent seasons, so adding Jones would certainly appease the reigning NFL MVP on that front. It would also give the Packers one of the league’s best receiving duos in Jones and Davante Adams, making them likely Super Bowl favorites after falling one win short of the big game in each of the last two seasons.

Possible Julio Jones Trade: How Would This Affect The Falcons?

Losing a player of Jones’ caliber would be a devastating short-term blow to the Falcons, who are coming off three straight losing seasons and finished 4-12 last year. Trading Jones would essentially guarantee another losing season (and possibly more) for Atlanta, as Matt Ryan‘s performance declined last year with Jones missing seven games to various injuries.

On the other hand, dealing Jones would improve the team’s long-term outlook considerably. An expensive veteran wide receiver is a luxury that a rebuilding team doesn’t need, and trading Jones would clear up a lot of cap space for the Falcons while netting young talent in return. Atlanta desperately needs a reboot, and moving on from Jones seems like the quickest way to accomplish that.
