The Pittsburgh Steelers pick Pat Freiermuth No. 55 Overall In 2021 NFL Draft No. 55 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft on Friday night.

Steelers Pick Pat Freiermuth No. 55 Overall In 2021 NFL Draft

While I am not in love with the Steelers’ 2021 NFL Draft picks so far — they should have addressed their regressing offensive line — they managed to add two pieces that will deliver long term.

We had already talked about Najee Harris’ betting and fantasy football outlook, but with their second-round pick, the Steelers selected their tight end of the future, Penn State Alum Pat Freiermuth.

The Steelers still have veteran Eric Ebron under contract, but he will be a free agent next offseason. What’s more, the Steelers can actually get out of his contract this offseason if Freiermuth pops early, which is an unlikely scenario, all things considered.

Tight end is, perhaps, the most difficult position to learn transiting from college to the pros. Moreover, Freiermuth is no Kyle Pitts.

Freiermuth is the best inline tight end prospect in the 2021 draft class, per draft gurus. Not only does he have the towering size to be a mismatch nightmare in the passing game while terrorizing enemy defenders in the red zone, but Freiermuth also excels as a run-blocking asset.

The Steelers won 11 games last season, but they are in short-term rebuild mode and not telling anyone. Freiermuth is an asset of the future on a team that must get younger at a number of positions.

Pat Freiermuth 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook

Unless the Steelers move on from Eric Ebron, Freiermuth’s fantasy football value in redraft formats will be at a mini in 2021. However, while Ebron has been relatively healthy in recent years, he does have injury concerns dating back to his rookie year. Should Ebron miss time, Freiermuth is a player worth watching on your waiver wire in-season.

Pat Freiermuth Dynasty Fantasy Football Outlook

While Kyle Pitts is the defacto TE1 in this draft class, Pat Freiermuth falls second in my rankings. While I don’t love the landing spot for his inaugural campaign at the pro level, Freiermuth is a player worth adding later in your rookie drafts as a future commodity. Eric Ebron is in his contract year and will likely hit the open market next offseason while the Steelers transition to the Freiermuth era as their TE1.

Pittsburgh Steelers To Make Playoffs?

  • Yes (+140)
  • No (-165)

The Steelers are in one of the toughest divisions in the NFL, yet they’re good enough to be playoff contenders year in and year out. A resounding yes to Pittsburgh reaching the postseason again in 2021, especially with seven teams now in the running and with the prospect of Big Ben being healthy.

Steelers To Win AFC North Division Title

Steelers To Win AFC North (+400)

Obviously, winning the division is also based on how the three other teams perform, but it’s hard to imagine the Steelers not taking the North with a more explosive offense than they had in 2020 when they won the division.

Steelers To Win Super Bowl 56

Steelers To Win Super Bowl 56 (+5000)

With this likely being Roethlisberger’s last season, the Steelers will certainly be some added motivation to Los Angeles and win their seventh Lombardi Trophy. It’s just not something we would bet on happening.
