The Detroit Lions pick Penei Sewell No. 7 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft on Thursday night.

Lions Pick Penei Sewell No. 7 Overall In 2021 NFL Draft

The Lions bolstered their offensive line with the selection of Penei Sewell, the consensus top tackle in this year’s class. Pass protection was a huge area of need for the Lions and a perfect way to start the rebuild under new head coach Dan Campbell.

Sewell is excellent in pass protection who can also perform well in the running game. He has the athleticism to move in space and help in the screen game. He can also block defenders at the second and third level.

The Lions can use Sewell at left tackle or kick him to the right side and leave Taylor Decker on the left. This would immediately improve two positions on the offensive line, which should help the offense function at a much higher level in 2021.

Lions Win Total

  • Over 5 Wins (-110)
  • Under 5 Wins (-110)

The Lions won five games last year, but they’ve downgraded at quarterback from Matthew Stafford to Jared Goff and lost WR Kenny Golladay to free agency. Having said that, the o-line should be much improved and five games is a low bar. This bet can go either way, as this looks like a 5-6 win team, so I’d pass.

Lions To Make Playoffs?

  • Yes (+600)
  • No (-800)

The Lions don’t have enough talent on offense or defense to make the playoffs yet. While they’re unlikely to bottom out because they have a capable starter in Goff, they are highly unlikely to make the playoffs.

Lions To Win NFC North Division Title

Lions To Win NFC North (+2500)

The Lions are clearly the fourth-best team in the division, so this is a pick to avoid.

Lions To Win Super Bowl 56

Lions (+15000)

The Lions have a better chance at picking first overall than winning the Super Bowl. This is a rebuilding team, so pass on this bet.
