It’s the start of the NFL season, so you know what that means: time to look for touchdown bets.

Wagering on touchdowns is one of the most popular bet types right now, right on par with home runs in baseball.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at my touchdown props for Week 1.

NFL TD Prop Bets Today

NFL odds used for these Week 1 TD prop bets are current as of Friday, Sep. 5, and courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.

Week 1 Anytime TD Props: Chris Rodriguez Jr. (+190)

Week 1 First TD Props: Bijan Robinson (+390)

Week 1 Multiple TD Props: Derrick Henry (+340)

Sportsbook Play of the Day

Week 1 Anytime TD Props

Chris Rodriguez Jr: Anytime TD (+190)

When the Commanders traded Brian Robinson to the 49ers, they did so to make room for not only promising rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt, but also Chris Rodriguez Jr.

This is a back who the coaching staff felt could do many of the same things as Robinson. It’s Week 1, so you’re unlikely to see much of a role for an undrafted rookie like Croskey-Merritt, so we could see Rodriguez have more of a role.

Expect Rodriguez to be the primary ball-carrier for the Commanders in the red zone.

That’s good news in a game that the Commanders project to lead, as highlighted by the point spread, where they’re six-point home favorites.

With that in mind, make Rodriguez one of your NFL best bets today.

Week 1 First TD Props

Bijan Robinson: First TD (+390)

Bijan Robinson rushed for 14 touchdowns last season. The Falcons love to feed their superstar back in the red zone.

We’re getting a bit more value than usual here because the Falcons are short underdogs, making it slightly less likely that they’ll score the first touchdown.

This is projected to be a high-scoring game against the Bucs, so Bijan should have a reasonable chance to find the end zone first in this one.

Bet on one of the best running backs in the NFL in this spot.

Week 1 Multiple TD Props

Derrick Henry: 2+ TDs (+340)

Derrick Henry rushed for 16 touchdowns in his first year as a Raven. Expect more of the same for this superstar veteran running back, who hasn’t shown any signs of decline despite his advanced age.

When the Ravens faced the Bills last year during the regular season, Henry scored two touchdowns with 209 total yards.

I know we’re not getting the greatest odds on 2+ touchdowns, but that highlights how Henry is among the likeliest to achieve this daunting task in Week 1.

I’ll bet on one of the most efficient runners in football getting it done for this explosive Ravens offense.

How NFL Anytime TD Prop Betting Works

When wagering on NFL touchdown props, you can pick a player to score a touchdown in the following ways:

  • Anytime Touchdown: Choose a player to score a touchdown at any point in the game.
  • First Touchdown: Your selection needs to score the game’s first touchdown.
  • Last Touchdown: The play has to score the game’s final touchdown.
  • Multiple Touchdowns: You can pick a player to score 2+ or 3+ touchdowns.

Some betting sites may offer “Next Touchdown" props as a live bet. This is where you choose which player scores the game’s next touchdown.

Each of these props has various odds. A player with a higher implied probability of scoring a touchdown will have shorter odds.

Choosing “First," “Next," “Last," or “Multiple" touchdown props will have larger payouts because they’re less likely to happen.

One important note about touchdown props: This does not include passing touchdowns if you choose a quarterback. You would need your quarterback to find the end zone with a rushing touchdown or a rare receiving score on a trick play.

NFL bets can also be made on other player props, such as receiving yards or total interceptions.

How to Pick the Best NFL Anytime TD Prop Betting Sites

Here’s what you need to look for when choosing the best NFL touchdown prop betting sites:

  • The site should feature every type of touchdown bet, including multiple scores.
  • There must be several players to choose from rather than just the stars.
  • The sportsbook should have promotions that cater to touchdown props.
  • There should be odds boosts for players to score a touchdown.
  • The odds should align with the rest of the market.
  • The platform should be user-friendly with a generous welcome bonus.

Best Anytime TD Prop Bets

These are the best touchdown prop bets to target:

  • Anytime Touchdown: It’s hard enough to pick a player to score a touchdown, so you don’t need to make it even more difficult by specifying whether it’s the first or last score of the game. Please keep it simple and stick to anytime touchdown props.
  • Multiple Touchdowns: If you want to shoot for the moon, you can take a player who gets a lot of red-zone usage to score more than one touchdown. A good example of this is Derrick Henry. Be sure to put less money on this bet than your anytime selection.

I suggest avoiding first or last touchdown bets because they can be random.

Anytime TD Betting Strategy

This is the strategy you should follow when targeting touchdown props:

  1. Choose a player on a team with a high implied team total. For example, if the Eagles are favored by four points in a game with a 50-point total, it means they have an implied total of 27 points. The more touchdowns a team scores, the better chance you hit your bet, so keep this in mind.
  2. Target a player heavily involved in the offense, especially in the red zone. You can look at a receiver’s target share or a running back’s red-zone usage to help you select. One good example is D.K. Metcalf, the main option for Pittsburgh inside the 20-yard line.
  3. Be sure not to risk too much of your bankroll on touchdown props. Touchdowns can sometimes be random, so you’ll want to ensure you’re not too heavily invested in this market.
