NFL Week 8 Best Bets: 3 Spread Picks for Sunday’s Slate

Last Updated: 4 hours ago

In what feels like the blink of an eye, we’re already into Week 8 of the NFL season.

We’re also entering the busy bye-week season, as six teams — the Detroit Lions, Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Rams, Arizona Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks, and Jacksonville Jaguars — will all have the week off.

Still, with 13 games to choose from, there are plenty of options for my NFL Week 8 predictions.

NFL Week 8 Best Bets

All NFL odds used for these against the spread picks are current as of Wednesday, Oct. 22, and courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.

Cincinnati Bengals -6.5 (-110) vs New York Jets

At 0-7, the New York Jets are in complete turmoil. As if their play on the field wasn’t already bad enough, owner Woody Johnson compounded issues by putting all of the blame on quarterback Justin Fields.

The problem for New York and head coach Aaron Glenn is that backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor is dealing with a knee injury and could miss Sunday’s contest in Cincinnati. That means Glenn may have to turn to Fields even if he wants to move on.

To make matters worse, the Cincinnati Bengals are coming off one of their best performances of the season, having defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 33-31 on Thursday Night Football.

Bengals quarterback Joe Flacco, once a New York Jet, threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns. Knowing the Jets’ luck, Flacco will likely torch a secondary that will be without cornerback Sauce Gardner —and, frankly, New York doesn’t have enough secondary talent to contend with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins without him.

I’m backing the Bengals to win by at least a touchdown as one of my Week 8 NFL picks.

Tennessee Titans +14 (-110) at Indianapolis Colts

Hold your nose—this one is ugly.

The Indianapolis Colts are coming off a 14-point road victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, proving once again that Daniel Jones and Co. are a legitimate outfit this season.

Meanwhile, the Titans suffered another double-digit defeat last week in their first game under interim head coach Mike McCoy.

Rookie quarterback Cam Ward’s struggles with turnovers continued, but he put together a second straight week of completing at least 68% of his passes and throwing for over 220 yards.

While Ward accumulated some of those stats in garbage time, I have faith he can get us through the back door if necessary.

If Vegas is going to offer a two-touchdown spread in the NFL, I’m going to take the points with the underdog most of the time, especially in a divisional matchup.

New Orleans Saints +4.5 (-112) vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers

For a team many expected to be the worst in the NFL this season, the New Orleans Saints have been particularly feisty through seven weeks.

Quarterback Spencer Rattler has played to a league-average level, and he hasn’t been at fault for most of the Saints’ setbacks.

This is a fair number to back New Orleans as a home underdog against a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team in the midst of an injury crisis.

Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield will now be without wide receiver Mike Evans, who suffered a broken collarbone in Monday’s 24-9 loss to the Detroit Lions, in addition to fellow wideout Chris Godwin Jr. and running back Bucky Irving.

While Tampa Bay has been one of the league’s most impressive teams, accumulating a 5-2 record, it is significantly shorthanded for this road trip on a short week.

Give me the Saints and the points to wrap up my NFL Week 8 predictions.
