AFC East

Buffalo Bills -625
Miami Dolphins +425
New England Patriots +2500

While the Patriots are still in it, the AFC East is a two-team race between the Bills and Dolphins. I won’t rule out New England as a Wild Card team, albeit is a longshot, but winning the East is not in the equation.

The Bills look like the best team in the division, but the Dolphins are not far behind. While Buffalo employs the better offense, Miami has the edge defensively. Separated by one game, the AFC East will be a close race until the end.

Let’s take a look at the remaining schedule for AFC East clubs.

  • Bills (8-3): at 49ers, Steelers, at Broncos, at Patriots, Dolphins
  • Dolphins (7-4): Bengals, Chiefs, Patriots, at Raiders, at Bills
  • Patriots (5-6): at Rams, at Chargers, at Dolphins, Bills, Jets

Looking at the remaining schedule, I can see the Week 17 game between the Dolphins and Bills deciding the AFC East. Currently, the Bills have the best shot of winning it, but at (-715) odds, you could be flushing away your money.

They are not a lock. Buffalo’s defense gives up way too many points and Josh Allen is not exactly the best in big games. Not to mention the fact that running the football isn’t exactly Buffalo’s forte.

The Dolphins (+400) are where I am placing my wager. While they aren’t any better than the Bills at running the ball — the return of Myles Gaskin will help — Miami employs the No. 2 defense in points allowed. Although you can gain yards against them, they hold their opponents to field goals or flat out stop them from scoring.

AFC North

Pittsburgh Steelers -5000
Cleveland Browns +1600
Baltimore Ravens +2200

The AFC North belongs to the 10-0 Steelers. There is not much to say here. While the Browns are 8-3 and the Ravens 6-4, it is difficult to imagine Pittsburgh losing at least three games in their final six. That will have to happen for either the Browns or Ravens to emerge on top of the AFC North. On top of that, the Browns and Ravens need to go 4-1 at worst, alongside the Steelers going 3-3 the rest of the way.

The Steelers are one of the most complete teams in football and can beat you in a multitude of ways. At (-5000), they are your best bet to win the North.

AFC South

Tennessee Titans -500
Indianapolis Colts +310
Houston Texans +10000

The AFC South is a two-team race. You can wager in either direction and sleep well at night. The Titans are currently on top of the division at 8-3, but the Colts are not far behind at 7-1. Both teams own a win against each other this season as well. This one is as tight as they come.

Let’s take a look at the remaining schedule for AFC South clubs.

  • Titans (8-3): Browns, at Jaguars, Lions, at Packers, at Texans
  • Colts (7-4): at Texans, at Raiders, Texans, at Steelers, Jaguars

As you can see, both the Titans and Colts have similar schedules down the stretch. They both play top-end teams, a middle-of-the-pack team, and three more or less easy teams. If both the Titans and Colts mimic each other in the win-loss column the rest of the way, the Titans will win it. I can see Tesessee going 4-1 while the Colts going 3-2 or even 2-3 if they struggle to run the football like they did last week against the Titans.

The Titans bring (-455) odds to win the AFC South while the Colts are set at (+320). Although I can see the Colts making a run if they can figure out their ground game and their defense gets back on track, the Titans are your best bet to clinch the South. If running the football is the path to a championship, the Titans have the best in the business right now. Derrick Henry is matchup-proof. Just ask the Colts.

AFC West

The AFC West is a one-team race in favor of the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs. There are no odds for this division.
