The NHL slate featured just four games last night, but that didn’t stop the goals from flying in.
The Rangers-Lightning contest led the way with 10 total goals, seven of which came in the highest-scoring first period in the league this season.
With 10 games on the docket for Thursday night, I’ll have plenty of options for my best NHL goalscorer bets today.
NHL Goalscorer Predictions Today
All hockey odds used for these NHL goalscorer predictions today are current as of Thursday, Nov. 13, and courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.
Cale Makar: Anytime Goalscorer (+235) vs Sabres
It’s not very often a defenseman leads my NHL goalscorer picks, but Colorado’s Cale Makar isn’t like most defensemen.
The reigning Norris Trophy winner has picked up right where he left off, leading all NHL defensemen in goals (six) and points (23).
Makar ranks third on the Avalanche in shots (45) and should have some opportunities tonight against a Buffalo team that is playing on the second night of a back-to-back and is winless on the road (0-4-2).
The 27-year-old scored against the Sabres in their first meeting on Oct 13, and I’m backing him to repeat that feat as my NHL pick of the day.
Morgan Geekie: First Goalscorer (+1300) @ Senators
Geekie has 11 goals in 18 games this season to lead the Bruins, who will put their seven-game win streak on the line tonight against the Senators in Ottawa.
NHL first goalscorer stats aren’t widely available. However, it’s worth noting that Boston has scored the opening goal in 10 of 18 contests, while Ottawa has done so in just six of its 17 outings.
Geekie has scored the Bruins’ first goal on four occasions this season, two of which were also the first score of the game.
He also has two goals in two games against the Senators this season, one of which opened the scoring, making these long-shot odds worth the squeeze.
Tyler Toffoli: Anytime Goalscorer (+240) @ Flames
For my other NHL anytime goalscorer prop, I’m targeting Sharks center Tyler Toffoli.
The 33-year-old is tied for second among San Jose skaters with 35 shots, which he has turned into five goals in 17 games.
Tonight, Toffoli will take on one of his former teams, the Calgary Flames, who have the fewest points in the NHL this season and allow 3.17 goals per game.
Toffoli scored in two of three meetings with the Flames last season, and I like his chances to light the lamp on Thursday night.
