Monday was a relatively low-scoring night in the NHL, as four of the five games on offer featured six or fewer goals.
However, if you had an NHL goalscorer prop in the 7-4 contest between the Buffalo Sabres and Calgary Flames, you had a good chance of cashing.
Tuesday’s 10-game slate should offer even more opportunities for us to find some players to light the lamp.
Let’s dig into my best NHL goalscorer bets today.
NHL Goalscorer Predictions Today
All hockey odds used for these NHL goalscorer predictions today are current as of Tuesday, Dec. 9, and courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.
Connor McDavid: Anytime Goalscorer (+125) vs Sabres
McDavid has picked things up after a slow opening month of the season, scoring 11 goals in 15 games since Nov. 4.
He now ranks second on the Oilers behind Leon Draisaitl with 14 goals in 29 games.
Tonight, McDavid will face a Sabres team allowing the most goals on the road in the NHL (4.46) by a wide margin. For reference, the next closest team is the Nashville Predators (3.75).
Meanwhile, the Oilers score the second-most home goals in the NHL (4.00) and have netted 15 in their previous two home games. McDavid has also been prolific on home ice, scoring eight times in 12 contests.
Buffalo has allowed 16 goals across the first three games of its current road trip, making this a good spot to back McDavid as my NHL pick of the day.
Sidney Crosby: First Goalscorer (+1100) vs Ducks
Crosby leads the Penguins with 18 goals this season, but he’s been particularly prolific early in games.
Pittsburgh’s captain has scored the opening goal on five occasions this season, including twice in the team’s previous five contests.
Tonight, Crosby and the Penguins will host an Anaheim Ducks team that has scored first in just four of 14 road games this season. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh has taken the lead in seven of 12 games at PPG Paints Arena.
NHL first goalscorer stats aren’t necessarily predictive, but I’ll take my chances here at 11-1 odds.

Brayden Point: Anytime Goalscorer (+200) @ Canadiens
For my other NHL anytime goalscorer prop, I’m targeting Tampa Bay Lightning star Brayden Point.
The Lightning have failed to score in back-to-back games, but I have a hunch they’ll break out of that slump tonight with a few goals.
Montreal has allowed the second-most goals (3.80 per game) among NHL home teams this season, including allowing four goals on Sunday to a St. Louis team that ranks 30th in scoring (2.57 goals per game).
Point has been in a slump of his own this season, scoring just three goals in 22 games after reaching the 40-goal plateau of the past three seasons.
The 29-year-old hasn’t scored in his last nine outings, but he recorded four shots against Toronto on Monday in his return from an injury that kept him out for seven games, an encouraging sign of things to come.
