My NHL goalscorer predictions went 2-1 on Tuesday night, as Edmonton’s Connor McDavid (two goals) and Tampa Bay’s Brayden Point found the back of the net.
I’ll try to keep the good vibes going for Thursday night’s jam-packed slate, which features 13 contests.
Let’s dig into my best NHL goalscorer bets today.
NHL Goalscorer Predictions Today
All hockey odds used for these NHL goalscorer predictions today are current as of Thursday, Dec. 11, and courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.
Leon Draisaitl: Anytime Goalscorer (+120) vs Red Wings
Draisaitl leads the Oilers with 17 goals in 30 games, three of which have come in his previous five outings.
The Edmonton star snapped a two-game goal streak in Tuesday’s overtime loss to Buffalo, but recorded a season-high seven shots on goal.
This season, the Oilers rank second in the NHL in home goals per game (3.92). Tonight, they’ll host a Detroit Red Wings team playing the second game of a back-to-back.
Draisaitl scored against the Red Wings in a 4-2 defeat on Oct. 19, and I like his chances to add to his tally tonight, making this my NHL pick of the day.
Brayden Schenn: First Goalscorer (+1600) @ Predators
The St. Louis Blues and Nashville Predators have similar records, but they’ve been polar opposites when it comes to starting games strongly this season.
Schenn’s Blues have scored first in 20 of 31 contests (64.5%), while the Predators have taken the lead in 10 of 29 games (34.4%).
While NHL first goalscorer stats aren’t necessarily predictive, I’m backing St. Louis’ captain to open the scoring tonight.
Schenn only has six goals on the season, but three have been the game’s first goal. Look for him to step up offensively with leading scorer Jordan Kyrou and others out of the lineup.
John Tavares: Anytime Goalscorer (+145) vs Sharks
For my other NHL anytime goalscorer prop, I’m targeting Toronto Maple Leafs star John Tavares, who leads the team with 13 goals in 29 games.
Tonight, the Leafs will take on a San Jose Sharks team that allows the fourth-most goals per game (3.57) on the road.
Tavares has been dominant on home ice this season, scoring 11 goals in 17 games at Scotiabank Arena.
The 35-year-old has just one goal in his previous eight contests, but I like his chances to break that slide against a Sharks team he scored on twice last season in just two games.
