Rams vs Colts Predictions Week 2 - NFL Pick of the Day

Week 1 of the 2021 NFL season provided a slight glimpse of what each team could look like this year. One of the most impressive teams during Week 1 was the Los Angeles Rams, who routed the Chicago Bears, 34-14, in Matthew Stafford‘s Rams debut.

Following their convincing win over Chicago, Los Angeles will travel to Lucas Oil Stadium to face the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2. The Colts were unable to win their Week 1 season opener at home, falling to Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks, 28-16.

Will LA continue to roll in Week 2, or will Indy bounce back? Let’s dig into this Week 2 matchup.

Los Angeles Rams vs Indianapolis Colts Prediction

Both the Rams and the Colts have lofty expectations this year after making changes at the quarterback position during the offseason. Los Angeles acquired Stafford via trade from the Detroit Lions in an effort to rejuvenate their offense, which struggled to consistently score points last year with Jared Goff under center.

As for Indianapolis, they engineered a trade to get Carson Wentz from the Philadelphia Eagles, reuniting him with head coach Frank Reich. Wentz had his best years when Reich was Philadelphia’s offensive coordinator and is expected to bounce back from a poor 2020 in which he led the league in interceptions.

The Stafford trade is already paying dividends for the Rams, who scored on six of their nine drives against a solid Bears defense in Week 1. Stafford was electric in his season debut, passing for 321 yards and three touchdowns — two of which exceeded 50 yards.

It’s no surprise that Stafford’s already flourishing with Los Angeles, where he has an abundance of weapons such as Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods, DeSean Jackson, Van Jefferson, Tyler Higbee, Darrell Henderson, and Sony Michel. The Rams’ defense also played well under new defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, notching three sacks and forcing two turnovers.

On the other hand, the Colts had their hands full with the Seahawks in Week 1, falling short on both sides of the ball. Wentz wasn’t able to keep pace with Wilson, who torched Indy’s defense for four passing touchdowns. The Colts will likely have similar troubles against the Rams in Week 2, which should result in another resounding victory for Los Angeles.

Prediction: Los Angeles Rams 31, Indianapolis Colts 20

Los Angeles Rams vs Indianapolis Colts Best Bets

Best Bet: Rams -4 (-110) at BetMGM

If Week 1’s rout of the Bears is any indication, then the Rams’ offense will be nearly impossible to contain. Stafford’s ability to push the ball downfield and sustain drives has taken Sean McVay‘s offense to another level. Henderson also proved capable of leading the backfield as an effective replacement for Cam Akers, who suffered a season-ending Achilles injury during training camp.

While the Colts could be better than they were against the Seahawks in Week 1, it’s hard to bet against McVay in September. Since taking over the team in 2017, McVay’s Rams are 12-3 in September.

In addition to LA’s clear coaching advantage, Stafford is also the superior quarterback to Wentz right now. Given how comfortable Stafford already appears in his new offense, the Rams are a great bet at -4. I believe they can win this game by at least double that, especially if CB Xavier Rhodes (calf) doesn’t return for Indianapolis.

The line may change throughout the week, however, so be sure to keep an eye on our NFL gameday odds.

Best Bet: Over 47.5 points (-110) at BetMGM

It’s evident that the Rams are going to score in bunches with Stafford at the helm, as not many defenses have the personnel to stop them. After hanging 34 points on Chicago in Week 1, Los Angeles is certainly capable of scoring 30+ again.

While the Rams’ defense remains strong, they were susceptible to the run in Week 1 as David Montgomery piled up 108 rushing yards, proving that Los Angeles can be exploited on the ground. Given that, Jonathan Taylor could post similar numbers against a defense that’s more concerned about defending the pass. Accordingly, I could see Taylor or Nyheim Hines breaking off multiple big runs and putting Indy in position to score a few touchdowns.

While the Colts’ offense isn’t as explosive as the Rams’ attack, Wentz can put points on the board and both teams should score enough to hit the Over here.
