The San Francisco 49ers will try to bounce back after getting blown out by the Seattle Seahawks in a matchup for the No. 1 seed in the NFC last week. It’ll be a tough spot for them against an elite Philadelphia Eagles defense.
While the Eagles have been disappointing on offense, their defense is good enough to slow down Brock Purdy and company, just like the Seahawks did in Week 18. With that in mind, this could be a lower-scoring game than expected.

The Eagles are reasonable favorites at home against the 49ers, which makes sense when you think about how much Purdy struggled against the similarly strong Seahawks in Week 18.
The over/under looks about right at 44.5, despite being the second-lowest total of this weekend’s NFL Wild Card games.
Even though the 49ers have a vulnerable defense, Philly’s offense has been underwhelming all year long.
49ers vs Eagles Predictions
Score Prediction: Eagles 23, 49ers 17
This NFC Wild Card game is a matchup of offense vs defense.
I give the advantage to the Eagles here. Not only has their defense been rolling lately, but they have a ton of playoff experience as the defending Super Bowl champions. I’m anticipating this team turning it up a notch now that it’s the postseason.
The problem with the 49ers is that their defense is simply not good enough. I don’t envision this group slowing down Saquon Barkley on the road. Plus, Purdy had a tough time with the Seahawks last week. That could be a preview of what we see against the Eagles.
Even at this spread, Philadelphia looks like the better bet here.
49ers vs Eagles Best Bets
Eagles -4.5 (-108)
While it would have been nice if we could get the Eagles to win by a field goal, I’m still willing to take them at this number because of their elite defense. Look for Jalen Carter to cause major problems for the 49ers up front.
We’ve also seen San Francisco get torched by Caleb Williams through the air. It wouldn’t shock me to see Jalen Hurts find A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith early and often in this one.

If the Niners’ defense were healthier, this could have been a much different story. But the edge on defense, combined with championship experience and home-field advantage, makes the Eagles look like the right play.

Under 44.5 Total Points (-110)
It’s good to get this total below the key number of 44, which means that we win with a common score line like 24-20 or 23-20.
I’m betting that Purdy will struggle against the Eagles’ defense just like he did in Week 18 against Seattle, so taking the under makes more sense here.
Expect conditions to be frigid in this one, so we’ll ride with the under as our NFL pick of the day.
