The NBA Cup has reached the quarterfinals, and one of the four matchups will feature the San Antonio Spurs visiting the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night.
Both teams advanced to the quarterfinals after finishing with the best record in their groups. The Lakers went 4-0 in Group B, and the Spurs went 3-1 in Group C.
With that, let’s check out my NBA Cup predictions for Spurs vs. Lakers.
Spurs vs Lakers Predictions
All NBA odds used for these Spurs vs Lakers best bets are current as of Wednesday, Dec. 10, and courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.
Spurs +7.5 (-115) @ Lakers
For my NBA pick of the day, I’m taking the Spurs to cover +7.5.
While Victor Wembanyama is out, I still like the Spurs. The line sat at 4.5 when he was believed to have a chance to play, and it’s now at 7.5.
Wembanyama has been out for nearly a month, and without him, the Spurs’ offense still ranks fourth in 2-point shooting percentage (57.2%). Meanwhile, the Lakers are allowing opponents to shoot 55.5% on 2-point shots (19th) and 37.9% on 3-point shots (25th) this season.
That should enable the visitors to keep this game close.
Under 240.5 Total Points (-115)
With Wemby out, this will be a high-scoring game, but 240 points is a lot without his presence down low.
The Spurs have allowed a 2-point shooting percentage of 62.9% over their last three games. Additionally, opponents have shot 38% from beyond the arc against San Antonio this season.
With those stats, the Lakers’ defensive deficiencies mentioned above, and two teams ranking in the top 10 in points per game, this will be a high-scoring game.
However, this line is too high for me, especially after these teams combined for 234 points in their first meeting on Nov. 5.
De’Aaron Fox: Over 1.5 3-Pointers Made (-284)
Next up is my top selection among Spurs vs Lakers prop bets, and I’m going with the over on Fox’s 3-pointers.
Fox has made at least two 3-point shots in each of his last five games. Not only that, but the Lakers rank 29th in opponent 3-point shooting percentage over their last three games (44.1%).
Los Angeles is giving up the 3-ball in bunches, and Fox has hit this prop in all but three games this season.
