The Miami Dolphins pick Jaylen Waddle No. 6 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft on Thursday night.

Dolphins Pick Jaylen Waddle No. 6 Overall In 2021 NFL Draft

The Dolphins are loading their offense with skill-position talent to give QB Tua Tagovailoa every chance to succeed in 2021. Not only did they sign WR Will Fuller in free agency, but selecting WR Jaylen Waddle sixth overall allows Miami to deploy pass-catchers that run four-deep. DeVante Parker, Mike Gesicki, Fuller, and Waddle, who played with Tagovailoa in Alabama, could be a deadly foursome if the quarterback works out.

While Waddle will likely start in three-wide sets, he could be the odd-man out when two receivers are on the field. At least early on. However, considering Fuller and Parker’s injury histories, Waddle could be busy.

Along with Fuller, Waddle, the fastest receiver in this class, gives Tagovailoa two sure-fire speedsters who can burn the enemy secondary vertically while cashing in on the big play.

Jaylen Waddle 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook

Jaylen Waddle has a ton of upside. However, I fear his quarterback. Although Tua Tagovailoa and Waddle played their collegiate ball together at Alabama and have a preexisting rapport, the Dolphins also employ Will Fuller, DeVante Parker, and Mike Gesicki.

This is not a Falcons and Kyle Pitts situation where we know the quarterback will put the ball where it needs to be. I am also questioning Waddle’s opportunity-share. The Dolphins are built to win with defense. I am not sure if they will have to pass a lot despite the fact that they have ample weapons to air it out.

Waddle will open his rookie season in the WR4 tier.

Jaylen Waddle Dynasty Fantasy Football Outlook

In rookie drafts, we need to look deeper. While I am not high on Waddle in Year 1 because of his opportunity share, 2022 could be a different story. Will Fuller only signed a one-year deal with Miami. If Fuller exits in free agency, Waddle will be a starter in two-wide sets.

Dolphins Win Total

  • Over 9 Wins (-110)
  • Under 9 Wins (-110)

The Dolphins won 10 games last season platooning Ryan Fitzpatrick and Tua Tagovailoa. Barring a catastrophic flop from Tagovailoa, it is safe to assume the Dolphins can replicate their 2020 win total, especially with more weapons at their second-year quarterback’s disposal.

The Patriots and Jets will be improved, which means the Dolphins will have to pick up wins elsewhere should they drop any of those games.

Dolphins To Make Playoffs?

  • Yes (+130)
  • No (-150)

Because I have so many questions about Tagovailoa, I can not condone a yes for the Dolphins making the postseason this season. While I do see them winning 10 games, they did that last season too and did not earn a postseason berth.

Dolphins To Win AFC East (+325)

Is there a world in which Tagovailoa works out, pops, and goes on a monster run to knock off the Bills for the AFC East title? Absolutely. However, I am not buying it, especially with the Patriots poised to get back on track.

Dolphins To Win Super Bowl 56

Dolphins (+2500)

I have not seen enough out of Tagovailoa to say the Dolphins can make a run at the AFC East, never mind the Super Bowl. The Patriots also have (+2500) odds. They are who I would take if I am looking at an AFC East team not named the Bills winning Super Bowl 56.

Jaylen Waddle 2021 Prop Bet(s)

Jaylen Waddle to win AP Offensive Rookie of the Year (+2000)

If there is a rookie pass-catcher popping enough to outset a quarterback or Kyle Pitts for OROY honors, it is not going to be Waddle. He may not even be the starter in two-wide sets. I don’t see him getting enough opportunity to put up the numbers for consideration. If I like any non-quarterback for the award while considering their landing spots, it is Pitts (+1200).
