Super Bowl Prop Bets 2023

Last Updated: Feb 24, 2023

As I look towards Super Bowl 57 and reflect back on my regular season and playoff outcomes, the results were more steady overall in the postseason. On NFL Conference Championship weekend, I broke even at 2-2 on my featured game props.

I teased the Eagles up to -4 on the spread and took the 49ers Under 2.5 TDs, as I believed the Philadelphia defense was going to be too much to handle for the 49ers. It was the best unit San Francisco faced this season.

Super Bowl 57 pits the league’s best passing offense against the NFL’s top passing defense. In such matchups, I will lean toward the defense to prevail. The Eagles have 78 sacks this season, including the playoffs.

Kansas City led the NFL in total offense for the third consecutive season. The Chiefs are making their third Super Bowl appearance in four years, so there may be an edge in experience, too.

I am not expecting a blowout in Super Bowl 57, as Kansas City did not lose a game by more than four points this season. Meanwhile, the Eagles only lost one game that Jalen Hurts started.

We should strap in for an exciting Super Bowl Sunday with a lot of nifty prop options to consider.

Here’s how to get the best tips on placing Super Bowl 57 prop bets:

Please note that all Super Bowl odds and lines are current as of 9 a.m. ET on Tuesday, February 8.

Eagles Super Bowl 57 Props

Eagles: Over 12.5 1st Half Points (-120) at DraftKings Sportsbook

WAGER: 1.5 Units

The Eagles had the best first-half offense in the league during the regular season, averaging 18.2 points per game. Kansas City allowed 10.8, and Philadelphia should be able to sail past that mark.

In its two playoff games so far, Philadelphia has scored 28 and 21 first-half points. While the Eagles may not roll out to big leads as they did against the Giants and 49ers, they will still score a healthy amount of first-half points in a closer game.

Eagles: 21-30 Total Points Band (+140) at DraftKings Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

The Eagles averaged 28.7 points per game during the regular season, so this total points band fits right into a favorable range. Philadelphia has scored 30-plus points in two NFC playoff games, but it won’t be able to dominate Kansas City to the same degree as its NFC opponents while still scoring enough to win the game.

The Chiefs allowed 20 points in both of their AFC playoff wins, so they were obviously one point short of the projected total points band here. Kansas City allowed more than 20 points in two of its three losses and four of its final six games overall during the regular season.

Eagles: Score the Most Touchdowns (+115) at DraftKings Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

Mahomes and Travis Kelce are the biggest offensive stars on the field, but the Eagles have a deeper crew of playmakers and a better defense. They can outscore the Chiefs and have a better chance of getting a defensive stop when it is most needed.

Kansas City allowed an NFL-high 33 passing TDs during the regular season and that is a notable factor when considering this wager. Philadelphia has 39 rushing TDs this season, including the playoffs, breaking a previous NFL record that was established in 1962.

Eagles: Win The Coin Toss And Win The Game (+250) at DraftKings Sportsbook

WAGER: 0.5 Units

For most of the season, I have based my wagers heavily on statistical trends and matchups, yet sometimes I have gone with a strong gut feeling. This bet combines the factors and we can have some fun with it.

The result of the flip is obviously heavily unpredictable, but I am backing Philadelphia to win, so if it wins the coin toss we are halfway there. For Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, there may be a significant difference in facing the NFL’s 26th-ranked pass defense in the AFC Championship Game, compared to the top unit overall in Super Bowl 57.

Chiefs Super Bowl 57 Props

Chiefs: Over 0.5 Rushing TDs (+105) at DraftKings Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

In the playoffs, Kansas City has not registered a rushing TD, as all five of its TDs have been via the pass. But the Eagles have allowed a rushing TD in each of their last seven games, including the postseason.

Christian McCaffrey tied the game early with a rushing TD in the NFC Championship Game against Philadelphia when it still seemed like San Francisco could keep up with the Eagles. During the regular season, Philadelphia allowed 15 rushing TDs, which was tied for 19th in the NFL.

Chiefs: Over 5.5 1st Quarter Points (-115) at DraftKings Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

During the regular season, the Chiefs were a top-five team in first-quarter scoring. They averaged 5.4 points per game, and have scored a first-quarter TD in four of their past five games overall.

I am expecting this to be a close game all the way, and if the Eagles get on the scoreboard first, it may not be too long before the Chiefs match them.

Kansas City has the experience edge as I mentioned, so they won’t succumb to any early jitters.

Chiefs: Under 24.5 Points (-115) at DraftKings Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

This is going to be a sweat, as the Chiefs may score three TDs, but that should be the max against the Eagles’ defense. My actual predicted final score is 28 to 24 with the Chiefs coming in just under the projected total.

In six of the last seven games that Jalen Hurts has played in, the Eagles’ defense has not been overworked and performed at its highest levels. The highest total they have allowed in those games has been 22 points.

Chiefs: Under 40.5 Total TD Yards (-120) at DraftKings Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

In either of their two AFC playoff games, Kansas City did not reach the projected total in terms of TD yardage.

Against the top pass defense in the league, I am not expecting the Chiefs to post in the range of 33 yards on two passing TDs as they did in the AFC Championship Game.

Super Bowl Exotic Props

For many bettors, this is a major wagering holiday.

Forget about just betting a team or side or even a run-of-the-mill prop bet; the Super Bowl, and its wide array of wagering options, generate the ultimate levels of gambling excitement.

Want to bet on an amusing wager such as a coin flip? This is your time. Want to bet on Gatorade colors and rare in-game occurrences? You can do that, too.

The distinctive “exotic" bets featured below open up new avenues of betting for the biggest game of the year.

Be sure to check out these other popular novelty props:

First Offensive Play: Rush Attempt (-125) at DraftKings Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

Considering how sturdy the Philadelphia pass defense is, the Chiefs may want to establish the run early in the game. The Eagles had a top-five rushing offense this season and can set up optimum offensive balance by running the ball from the outset.

Game-Winning FG To End Regulation? Yes (+750) at DraftKings Sportsbook

WAGER: 0.5 Units

As I previously indicated, I do expect the final score to be within a four-point range or so. The spread on this game is only at 1.5 points, so the possibility of a game-winning field goal certainly seems realistic.

Harrison Butker does seem to have a knack for making memorable field goals. He had the game-winner in the AFC Championship Game and he made a game-tying field goal to send the memorable Bills-Chiefs divisional round game into overtime last year.

Butker also set a franchise record with a 62-yard field goal on Oct. 16 against Buffalo.

Any Player to Have a 55+ Yard Reception (+250) at DraftKings Sportsbook

WAGER: 0.5 Units

I did point out how susceptible the Chiefs’ defense can be to big plays in terms of TDs. They also ranked 19th in passing yards per game allowed during the regular season.

A.J. Brown averaged 17 yards per reception during the regular season, fourth-best in the NFL. DeVonta Smith has a 40-yard catch in the playoffs and he had a long of 45 during the regular season.

Quez Watkins had a long reception of 53 yards during the regular season. It should also be noted that five different Chiefs receivers had receptions of 50-plus yards during the regular season.

Coin Toss Result: Heads (+100) at DraftKings Sportsbook

WAGER: 0.5 Units

I am going to ride with recent trends here.

The coin has come up heads in four of the last five Super Bowls, so even though is a legit 50-50 wager, I believe luck will end up on the heads side again.

Gatorade Color Poured On Winning Coach: Yellow/Green (+165) at DraftKings Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

As indicated in Adam Kramer’s comprehensive breakdown of Gatorade history and trends, the Eagles used lemon/lime in their first Super Bowl victory.

Unless someone on the staff gets even more dialed into the available flavors and finds green apple, I am betting on lemon/lime again.

Jersey Number Of First TD Scorer: Over 11.5 (+105) at DraftKings Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

On the Chiefs side, Isiah Pacheco (jersey number 10) has five rushing TDs this season, including the playoffs, and JuJu Smith-Schuster (9) has only three.

Hurts (1) and Smith (6) prevent me from recommending two units, but the other Philadelphia pass-catchers and the RBs, who have rushed for five TDs in the playoffs, still make me like the outlook here.

How Super Bowl Prop Betting Works

Super Bowl Prop Betting is when you place a wager on a specific outcome. The sportsbook sets a line and you need to bet Over or Under. In some instances, the options may also be Yes or No.

Some props also include several choices with different odds that provide varying payouts. In total, you can pick from Game Props, Player Props, Novelty Props, and Futures Props. Let’s dive in to explain each type of prop.

Game Props

Game Props refer to general outcomes that don’t pertain to a specific player. You can bet on events such as total number of sacks, longest field goal, longest passing touchdown, and much more.

For example, I could bet Over 48.5 yards (-110) on the longest field goal. If either kicker makes a field goal of 49 yards or longer, I would win this bet. If the longest field goal is 48 yards or fewer, I would lose this wager.

Since the line is -110, I would be risking 1.1x my bet, meaning my stake would be $110 to win $100. These types of props are usually set at -110 odds (or close to it) for both outcomes.

Player Props

Player props involve outcomes for specific players. You can bet on a player’s total yards, touchdowns, receptions, sacks, and much more.

For example, I could bet Over 277.5 passing yards (-130) for Patrick Mahomes. If Mahomes throws for 278 yards or more, I would win this wager. If he fails to eclipse this total, I would lose the bet.

Unfortunately, once your player steps on the field, the bet is locked in. Even if Mahomes gets hurt in the first quarter, I would still lose. Sportsbooks have a rule that states that if a player plays at least one snap, the bet is live. In this particular case, I would be staking $130 to win $100.

The lines on player props are often more diverse. Favored outcomes will require a higher stake, usually at a moneyline of -120 or higher. You may also find some player props with plus-money odds, where the payout is greater than the stake.

Novelty Props

Novelty props involve outcomes that don’t have anything to do with the players or the game, but with specific events revolving around the Super Bowl. These usually include random events such as the length of the national anthem or color of the Gatorade dumped on the winning coach after the game.

An example of this would be if I bet Over two minutes for the length of the national anthem. If the singer takes longer than that to complete their rendition, I would win my bet. If you’re betting on the color of the Gatorade, you’ll have a few options, each with different moneylines, such as orange (-110), red (+200), purple (+300) and others.

Futures Props

Futures Props are bets that can be placed on the Super Bowl before the game is played, even well in advance. These wagers are settled at the end of the game. Some types of Super Bowl futures props include Super Bowl MVP and Super Bowl Winner.

You can make a Super Bowl futures prop bet even before the two competitors are decided. For example, I could bet on any playoff team to win the Super Bowl, such as the Buffalo Bills (+800).

When betting on the Super Bowl MVP, you have several choices, each with varying moneylines based on their likelihood of winning the award. For example, if the Philadelphia Eagles are in the Super Bowl, quarterback Jalen Hurts (-110) would likely be the heavy favorite.

Best Super Bowl Prop Betting Sites

The best Super Bowl Prop Betting sites not only include a diverse selection of props, but also provide users with the ability to combine their props into Same Game Parlays for higher payouts. They also feature live betting with props, which can also be helpful.

Here are my five favorite Super Bowl Prop Betting sportsbooks:

DraftKings

DraftKings provides an extensive list of Super Bowl props, especially player props. They provide users with the ability to combine player props to create a Same Game Parlay. DraftKings also allows bettors to bet on low-probability outcomes, such as Travis Kelce scoring three touchdowns. DraftKings has a sleek app with the option for daily fantasy. This is great because you can hedge your prop bets by avoiding those players in your daily fantasy lineups.

Caesars

Caesars has a ton of props to choose from, including odds boosts on specific events combined into a Same Game Parlay. For example, you can bet on the Kansas City Chiefs to win with Patrick Mahomes throwing three touchdown passes for improved odds. There are several examples of that offered by Caesars during the Super Bowl.

BetMGM

BetMGM provides a user-friendly experience with similar perks as the other sportsbooks listed above. They have a live-betting section with live-streaming options, allowing bettors to follow their bet in real-time. Like Caesars, BetMGM provides pre-arranged Same Game Parlays, which can be helpful for novice bettors.

Be sure to check out which BetMGM promos are available for the Super Bowl.

FanDuel

FanDuel also features a comprehensive selection of player props, game props and novelty props. Users can create huge Same Game Parlays with the potential of winning a massive payout. With their large selection of betting options, full slate of promotional offerings, and plenty of safe and secure banking methods, it is no wonder that FanDuel is the go-to sportsbook for most U.S. online bettors.

Bet365

Bet365 similarly features several player props with a “Bet Builder” feature that allows users to create their own Same Game Parlays. Bet365 also has pre-arranged parlays with different props to make it easier on bettors. My favorite part of this sportsbook is the live prop betting feature. Player props are adjusted in real-time based on events in the game. This gives bettors the opportunity to gain an edge if they notice that a player isn’t getting a lot of playing time.

How To Pick the Best Super Bowl Prop Betting Sites

It’s important to establish criteria on how to pick the ideal sportsbook for Super Bowl prop betting. Here is a list to help guide you in your selection:

Same Game Parlays

Same Game Parlays are great because you can correlate your prop bets for potentially higher payouts. For example, if I bet the Over on Patrick Mahomes’ passing yards, I would include the Over on Travis Kelce’s receiving yards. These are two correlated events because there’s a good chance that if Mahomes goes Over, Kelce will as well, since he’s currently the top target on the team.

Live Betting

Live Betting on player props is something that is not usually offered by sportsbooks, but you’ll find this option at bet365. It’s a good tool because let’s say that you notice that running back Miles Sanders is getting less playing time than expected. You can then bet the Under on his live rushing yards prop. Watching the game always gives you an edge in live betting.

Welcome Bonuses

Welcome Bonuses are great because they provide bet credits to new users following their first deposit. This can be helpful to build a betting bankroll. Check to see which welcome bonuses are being offered by your desired sportsbook.

Promotions

You can also find some of the best sportsbook promotions pertaining to props bets, such as props boosts. An odds boost is when the sportsbook provides greater value on a specific bet. For example, Patrick Mahomes throwing 3+ touchdowns might have been +160, but the book boosted it to +200. This is helpful to bettors as you try to create an edge against the bookmakers.

User Interface

User Interface is always important because you want your sportsbook to have an organized layout that is easy to navigate. This is huge when placing a live bet because you need to do it immediately since odds are updating in real-time.

Guidance to Novice Bettors

If you are unsure of what prop bets to make, we here at The Game Day have done the hard work for you, and you can consult our betting experts every step of the way from Week 1 all the way through to the last down of the Super Bowl.

Check out our daily betting picks for all the best bets and best bonus offers.

Super Bowl Prop Betting Promotions

There are different Super Bowl Props promotions offered by sportsbooks. Here are a few to look out for:

Props Boosts

This is when the sportsbook boosts the odds on a specific prop, which provides more value to the user. For example, they might have Jalen Hurts to rush for two touchdowns at +600, but boosted it to +700. This means that if you bet $100 on this prop, you would win $700 instead of $600.

Profit Boosts

Sportsbooks offer an increase in potential profits on specific outcomes. For example, in Super Bowl 55, DraftKings offered a 25% profit boost to selected events, such as Patrick Mahomes throwing 3+ touchdown passes.

Risk-Free Same Game Parlays

Betting sites offer new users risk-free Same Game Parlays. For example, DraftKings provided this promotion where bettors making their first Same Game Parlay (maximum $25) would be refunded if it was a losing bet. We can expect similar promotions to be available during the Super Bowl.

Past Super Bowl Promos

  • DraftKings: Super Bowl 56 Bonus: Last year, DraftKings debuted a Super Bowl offer that granted new players 56-1 odds on either team to win the game when they bet $5.
  • Caesars: Deposit Match: Caesars is known for having some of the largest welcome bonuses in the industry and it delivered for Super Bowl 56, offering new players a first deposit match up to $1,500.
  • BetMGM: Bet $10, Get $200: BetMGM launched its bet $10, get $200 promo for last year’s game between the Rams and Bengals. New players who bet at least $10 on the game received $200 in free bets if either team scored a touchdown.

Best Super Bowl Prop Bets

The best type of Super Bowl Prop Bet is player props. This is because player production is more projectable. We can examine their season-long sample of production, usage, matchup, and team context.

For example, Quez Watkins averaged 10.7 receiving yards per game this season. However, most of his production came with Dallas Goedert out of the lineup. Goedert’s return relegated Watkins to the fourth or fifth option in the Eagles’ offense.

This means that Watkins is slated for fewer targets, which lowers his upside for receiving yards. If we see that Watkins has a prop of 13.5 receiving yards, we would bet on the Under due to these changes in his team context.

You can also go with game props, such as total sacks for a specific team. This is because we have data to show us how good a team is at rushing the passer. If a team is among the best at generating pressure, they’re a decent bet for the Over on sacks, depending on the opposing team’s pass protection skills.

Super Bowl Player Props

Super Bowl Player Props are prop bets related to player production within the Super Bowl. You can bet on several stats such as receptions, receiving yards, rushing yards, passing yards, pass attempts, and much more.

The sportsbook sets a line for each of these events and you need to bet on the Over or Under. Each side has a moneyline that can vary. For example, if Patrick Mahomes Over 1.5 passing touchdowns is the favored outcome, the moneyline will be higher, perhaps as much as -200.

The player prop goes live if the player is on the field for at least one snap. This means that if they leave the game early with an injury, you (likely) won’t get refunded if your player fails to hit the Over on his prop. However, you’d win your bet if you had the Under in that situation.

Super Bowl Prop Betting Strategy

Your Super Bowl Prop Betting strategy should start with Player Props. This is because these are more predictable than other props. You can research the player’s production for the season as well as the opposing matchup to get a better idea of which side you’d prefer.

First, I would choose my favorite player props and place straight bets on them. This is because I’m most confident in these plays, so I’d want to profit if they hit. Don’t pile them into a parlay because you could then get most of the picks right, but still come away with zero profit.

I tend to focus my player prop plays on yardage stats because they are easier to project. Yardage props are ideal because you can look at their season-long production, such as average yards per game. You can also view their volume stats, such as target share, which is percentage of team targets for each player. This is great for receiving props.

Touchdowns can be random, so I’d avoid betting on a player to score a touchdown. You should also ignore pass and rush attempts because these are more affected by game flow. For example, if Patrick Mahomes throws a 60-yard touchdown pass, that’s bad news if you bet the Over on his pass attempts.

Next, I would find correlated player props to combine for a Same Game Parlay. For example, I could pair Patrick Mahomes Over 275.5 passing yards with Travis Kelce Over 6.5 receptions or Over 75 receiving yards. If Mahomes has a big game, the chances are high that his top target will also have strong production. This is the best way to create your Same Game Parlays.

While watching the game, I’d keep an eye on any live player props bets that stick out to me. For example, if I notice that wide receiver Mecole Hardman is barely seeing the field, I would try to bet the Under on his live player prop for receiving yards.

I would suggest avoiding Novelty Props because these are totally random. You aren’t able to project how long a singer will take to finish the national anthem or what color the Gatorade will be. These are fun props in name only, but they’re bad bets that can eat away at your bankroll. Don’t touch these.

To finish off my Super Bowl Props strategy, I would place a wager on Super Bowl MVP for each team. The quarterbacks are always the heavy favorites here, so I’d bet on each of them with a higher stake because of the greater likelihood. Then, I’d put in small bets on two longshot MVPs to try to hit a home run.

Benefits of Super Bowl Prop Betting Online

There are several benefits to placing Super Bowl Prop Bets online. You’ll find them below:

  • Convenience: It’s much easier to place a bet online than going in-person to your sportsbook. You can put these wagers in from the comfort of your electronic device.
  • Promotions: Betting online means that you have access to welcome bonuses and promotions, which provide you with free bet credits to build your bankroll.
  • Live Betting: Live betting requires you to act quickly, since the odds change in real-time. You need to place the wager during a stoppage in play. This means that online betting is the only way that you can bet after the game has started. Live betting can offer some edges, so be sure to take advantage here.

How to Place a Super Bowl Prop Bet Online

  3. Choose your preferred props and add them to your Bet Slip.

Where Can I Bet Super Bowl Novelty Props?

While Super Bowl props are the main attraction when betting on the big game, some states have restrictions as to which novelty props sportsbooks can offer.

Here is a full list of the states in which certain Super Bowl props are available:

Coin Toss: AZ, IL, IN, MD, MI, MS, NJ, NY, PA, WA, WV, WY

Gatorade Color: AZ, IL, MD, NJ, WV

National Anthem: IL, MD

MVP Award: AZ, CT, CO, DC, KS, IA, IL, IN, LA, MD, MI, MS, NJ, OH, PA, TN, WA, WV, WY

Negative Outcomes: AZ, CT, CO, DC, KS, IL, IN, LA, MD, MI, MS, NJ, OH, PA, TN, VA, WA, WV, WY

Choose More Than One Super Bowl Prop Betting Site

It’s important to choose multiple sites to place prop bets because you can take advantage of their welcome bonuses, such as first-deposit matches. These are one-time offers, so it’s best to deposit the maximum amount to receive the highest amount of bet credits offered by the sportsbook.

The best suggestion would be to deposit as much as you can afford for your bankroll and then take the profits to add to another site. This way, you can maximize your bet credits and take full advantage of the welcome bonuses.

For example, I could deposit $1,000 on FanDuel to get their full $1,000 risk-free bet. I would try to earn profits to then deposit $1,000 of those winnings to another site.

Choosing multiple sportsbooks is also useful to compare lines. For example, DraftKings might have Jalen Hurts’ passing yards prop at 247.5, but Caesars might have it at 253.5. In this case, it’s better to bet the Over on DraftKings.

Every yard makes a huge difference in player props, so make sure to compare lines as much as possible. —Frank Ammirante
