The San Francisco 49ers (3-4) are looking to snap a two-game losing streak against the division-rival Los Angeles Rams (3-3), who are coming off their bye week. It’s a pivotal clash between two playoff contenders looking to gain some ground in the race for the NFC West division crown.

When these two teams met in Week 4, the 49ers dominated in a 24-9 win at home, sacking Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford seven times. San Francisco will look to replicate that defensive performance in this rematch.

Let’s take a look at the San Francisco vs Los Angeles best bets for this Week 8 matchup.

49ers vs Rams Odds

The 49ers come in as short road favorites, demonstrating that oddsmakers view them as the superior team, especially with the addition of running back Christian McCaffrey. The total looks a bit low at 41.5, but it highlights the Rams’ pass protection issues.

Take a look at the best 49ers odds and Rams odds for the 2022 NFL season.

49ers vs Rams Implied Totals

49ers 21.5, Rams 20

Bookmakers project the 49ers to narrowly edge out the Rams in a more closely contested game than their previous matchup. They think that Stafford will continue to have trouble dealing with this San Francisco pass rush.

49ers vs Rams Prediction

49ers 27, Rams 20

The biggest edge in this matchup is the 49ers’ pass-rush against the Rams’ pass protection. The San Francisco defense ranks third with an 8.9% Adjusted Sack Rate, while the Los Angeles offensive line is 25th in that category, per Football Outsiders.

Stafford was only able to average 5.3 yards per attempt in their Week 4 matchup, as he could not get anything going while being constantly under duress. San Francisco is looking to bounce back from a poor defensive performance in Week 7, which is more bad news for the Rams.

The Rams are expected to get back deep-threat wideout Van Jefferson, which could open up some room for the rest of the offense, as his speed was sorely missed. However, Jefferson’s return won’t matter much if Stafford doesn’t have much time to throw.

From top to bottom, the 49ers look like the best team in the NFC West right now, they just ran into a juggernaut Chiefs team last week. We can expect McCaffrey to get more involved in the offense for this game, giving the team another elite playmaker.

There is so much talent on this offense with McCaffrey joining the likes of Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Brandon Aiyuk. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo just needs to get the ball in the hands of his playmakers and let them go to work after the catch.

Look for the 49ers to get a much-needed victory as they head into the Week 9 bye.

49ers vs Rams Bet Tips

Here are some 49ers vs Rams betting trends to consider before placing your bets:

  • The 49ers are 3-4 against the spread and Under are 5-2 in their games.
  • The Under is 5-1 in Rams games this season, while they’ve gone 2-4 against the spread.
  • San Francisco has won the last seven regular season matchups against the Rams.
  • McCaffrey should see a larger role in his second game with the 49ers.
  • Jefferson is expected to be in the lineup for the Rams.

49ers vs Rams Best Bets

49ers Moneyline (-130) at FanDuel Sportsbook

We’ll back the better team at the short price here. The Rams don’t even have much of a home-field advantage to be concerned with, especially against their California rivals that have a larger fanbase in the region.

Look for the San Francisco pass rush to continue to wreak havoc on the Rams’ offensive line. Los Angeles needs this to turn into a defensive slugfest to win this game, and I don’t see that happening with the 49ers’ firepower.

Over 41.5 Total Points (-115) at FanDuel Sportsbook

I know that both teams have trended toward Unders this season, but I don’t feel comfortable betting such a low bar at 41.5 points. The 49ers have so many weapons on offense, so we’re going with the Over here. All we need is a 23-20 49ers win and we’re in the green.

This is compounded by the fact that San Francisco has shown some leaks on defense lately, allowing 72 points in their last two games, including 44 to the Chiefs. Their last three combined totals have been 77, 42, and 52 points, respectively.
