Jets vs Falcons Predictions Week 5 | NFL Pick of the Day

Last Updated: Oct 10, 2021

The New York Jets picked up their first win of the season in a Week 4 upset over the Tennessee Titans. The Titans were without wide receivers Julio Jones and AJ Brown, which may have led to the shocking loss, since Tennessee was able to pass for just one touchdown.

Titans running back Derrick Henry dominated on the ground again, picking up 157 yards rushing and a touchdown, while the Jets struggled to run the ball.

Despite giving up 24 points to the Titans, the Jets’ defense performed well, picking up seven sacks, seven tackles for loss, and 14 quarterback hits. If they want to beat the Falcons in England, they will need to put the pressure on Matt Ryan like they did to Ryan Tannehill.

After two disappointing games, Jets wide receiver Corey Davis caught four passes for 111 yards, was targeted seven times, and scored a touchdown. Jamison Crowder picked up a touchdown as well.

With the Jets struggling to run the ball, it appears they will lean on their passing game to challenge the Falcons.

Like the Jets, the Falcons have been struggling to find success in the running game, so they leaned on quarterback Matt Ryan last week against Washington.

Despite his 283 yards and four passing touchdowns, three of which went to Cordarrelle Patterson, Ryan and the Falcons were unable to hold onto a late lead.

The Falcons are currently favored at -3 against the Jets, and enter into a winnable Week 5 matchup, however with recent news that Calvin Ridley will not make the trip, this game could be closer than most expect.

Please note that all Jets vs Falcons odds and lines are current as of Friday, October 8. With that said, let’s dive deeper in the NFL pick of the day series.

Jets vs Falcons Prediction

This matchup is a battle of teams that have struggled early in the season. Both are off to 1-3 starts.

The Falcons have allowed a league-worst 128 points, while the Jets have only allowed 94. However, the Falcons have scored nearly double the amount of points the Jets have.

The Falcons have better weapons on offense, as well as an experienced quarterback to lead them, but that might not be enough to win this game. The Falcons’ defense will have to step it up and create some turnovers against Jets quarterback Zach Wilson, who leads the NFL with eight interceptions.

For the Jets to win, they will need to find a way to put up points and protect the football — two things they have struggled to do all season.

The Falcons lost a game they could have won against Washington, and the Jets won a game they could have lost against a depleted Titans team. This game should go to the Falcons, and could be another close game for both of these teams, which is reflected in the NFL gameday odds.

Betting Pick: Jets 22, Falcons 17

Jets vs Falcons Best Bets

Jets +3 (-115) at BetMGM

Because the Falcons defense has been so porous over the first four weeks of the season, and because the Jets have finally found some offense, this game could end up being closer than most anticipate.

The Falcons have struggled to keep their opponents from scoring and have given up at least 32 points to each of their opponents, save for the Giants in Week 3. They have allowed at least 260 passing yards and 100 rushing yards in each of their first four games.

While the Jets have yet to put together a complete game on offense, they have shown flashes of what they could be. In Week 2 against the Patriots, the Jets picked up 152 rushing yards, and in Week 4 against the Titans, Wilson threw for 297 yards and two touchdowns.

The Jets could have a solid outing against a soft Falcons defense, which is why taking the Jets at +3 is a smart call if you decide to make this your pick of the day.

Under 45.5 points (-110) at BetMGM

In four weeks, the Jets and their opponents have combined to score over 46 points once, which happened last week in their overtime victory over the Titans.

Part of the reason for this is that the Jets are not a good team. The other reason for these low scoring contests is that the Jets have played against arguably three top-10 defenses so far in Carolina, New England, and Denver.

The Falcons are one of the worst defenses in the NFL, which explains why they have had two of their first four games go over 46 points.

But with Calvin Ridley out, and the Jets defense actually holding their own in most games, this has the makings of a close, low-scoring contest.

This is why taking Under 45.5 is one of the best bets to make for this game and an excellent NFL bet of the day.
